Duties include:

  • Supervise children outdoors.
  • Organise and implement outside games and activities to encourage enjoyment at lunchtime.
  • Set and maintain high standards of behaviour within the school's behaviour policies.
  • Respond to the different needs and interests of children.
  • Organise activities for wet playtimes.
  • Work closely with lunchtime colleagues.
  • Good communication skills with pupils and other school staff.
  • Interact positively and establish good relationships with all children and other staff as necessary.
  • Ensure children enjoy lunchtime, healthy eating, and a relaxed, engaging environment.
  • Promote and support a whole school approach to inclusive play.
  • Support all children and school staff as necessary.
  • Work within the school's policies regarding: Behaviour Management, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Anti-Bullying, Confidentiality, Risk Management.
  • Carry out responsibilities under the direction and guidance of the post's manager.
  • Support and supervise children in the dining room, playground, corridors, toilets or other areas during lunchtime depending on the timetable and rota established.
  • Listen to children's concerns and respond appropriately.
  • Deal with difficult or challenging behaviour by pupils in a calm and professional way.
  • Be alert for children who are at risk of bullying or being bullied and intervene in disputes as necessary.
  • Ensure that all children who suffer any injury or accident are dealt with appropriately and in accordance with the school's agreed procedures.
  • Report any serious concerns regarding children's welfare or behaviour to the Class Teacher(s) and/or Teaching Assistant(s) as and when they arise, and inform the Senior Leadership Team as necessary.
  • Assist in ensuring that all those who are on the premises at lunchtime have authority to be there.

Hours of Work: 11.50am-1.05pm, term time only, part-time 6.25 hours per week.

Experience Requirements: Preferred experience of working with primary school age children. Be flexible, able to work well within a team, and willing to undertake training.

Salary and Contract: Grade 1, Β£24,796 pro rata. Permanent from March 2026 (As soon as possible). Part Time, 6.25 hours per week, 11.50am to 1.05pm.

Additional Information: Consett Junior School seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and committed person to supervise pupils during the lunchtime period to start as soon as possible. This position is paid whole time with retainer adjustments applied to periods of school closure. You will not be required to work during the school closure periods; however, your salary in these periods will be adjusted accordingly in line with the retainer regulations as specified in the National Joint Council (NJC) Green Book agreement. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and, if successful, you will need to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure. The position will be appointed subject to suitable references and receipt of a satisfactory DBS Check.
