We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Primary teacher to join our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), a small and supportive setting for pupils aged 5-16. Our provision supports young people who require an alternative to mainstream education, often due to social, emotional, or behavioural needs. This full-time role involves teaching pupils across KS1 & 2, many of whom have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or SEND. The successful candidate will play a key role in raising attainment and modelling best practice within the Primary Unit. This role can be challenging, but it is equally rewarding. You will work closely with a small group of pupils, building strong, trusting relationships and making a genuine difference to their academic progress, personal development, and future opportunities.

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties
  • Creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
  • Working collaboratively with support staff, families, and external agencies
  • Promoting positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches
  • Monitoring and tracking progress to ensure every pupil achieves their potential
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience working with primary-aged pupils (5-11)
  • Strong classroom management skills and a calm, consistent approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable young people
  • Resilience, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
  • Experience in alternative provision, SEND, or SEMH settings (desirable but not essential)
  • Small class sizes and a supportive team environment
  • The opportunity to make a tangible, lasting impact on young lives
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • A collaborative culture where every staff member\’s contribution is valued

Working in a PRU is not without its challenges, but for the right person, it offers exceptional professional fulfilment. Every breakthrough matters, every small success is celebrated, and every day brings the chance to change a young person\’s trajectory for the better.
