Excellent opportunity to join a major player in the solar energy sector. The company is a specialist technical service provider for photovoltaic (PV) plants, focusing on the management, construction and maintenance of utility-scale and industrial solar projects.
They are looking for a Solar Field Service Engineer for the Cambridge region. It's a very exciting time to join this fast-growing company.
The right candidate will have experience in the electrical installation and maintenance of industrial sites and specific knowledge of DC electrical systems. You will have previous experience or technical knowledge of photovoltaic systems and high-voltage systems. Good ability and confidence in using basic electrical equipment such as multimeters and insulation testers is required.
Main Responsibilities for the Solar Field Service Engineer will include:
- Visual inspection activities, cleaning and reporting to the management team.
- Routine maintenance activities on modules, inverters, cables and connectors, DC and AC distribution boxes.
- Routine maintenance activities on module mounting systems, fence and gates, inverter and transformer stations (excluding equipment).
- Routine maintenance activities on monitoring and communication equipment (data logger, routers, sensors, etc.).
- Routine maintenance activities on security system devices (cameras, barriers, etc.).
- Fault finding on electrical components by means of visual inspections or professional site measurement activities (thermal imaging, insulation tester, etc.).
- Execute corrective measures to keep the system available.
- Engage and manage subcontractors.
- Called to perform reactive and corrective maintenance activities as well as, from time to time, to manage subcontractors and control the quality of activities performed.
This is a Monday to Friday role with a little flexibility required occasionally at weekends or Bank Holidays.
Skills and Experience required for the Solar Field Service Engineer includes:
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in electrical installation and maintenance, preferably in industrial or utility-scale environments.
- Proven experience or technical knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) systems (may potentially consider wind energy backgrounds).
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing tools.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong communication skills.
- Problem-solving mindset.
- NVQ Level 3 electrical certification.
This is a field-based role which will provide you with a company van as well as many other benefits including access to high voltage certification (paid for by the company) and a company bonus scheme. A full UK driving licence is essential.
