Our client, who are experts in formulation development and work with luxury skincare brands, has partnered with Woodstock Recruitment to find their next addition to the team: a values-driven formulator with a passion for skincare and perhaps some additional product experience to add into the mix.

Key responsibilities

  • Generate formulations to an internal or external brief. Modify existing formulations independently.
  • Test formulations from a quality and performance perspective.
  • Investigate, optimise, and write methods of lab manufacture, anticipating any impact on larger scale manufacture, highlighting risks and designing methods accordingly.
  • Work with raw material ingredient suppliers to identify materials to meet internal and external briefs.
  • Work with Production staff to ensure correct upscale of the formulation.
  • Engage with clients both in person and online to thoroughly understand their requirements. Develop a project brief and establish a strategic roadmap to achieve the desired objectives.
  • Keep up to date with market trends in personal care and beauty to bring inspiration to products.
  • Constantly strive to work to a high standard by following Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Understand SOPs (standard operating procedures) and work instructions.
  • Accurately record and report data using business systems, such as formulation management software, product lifecycle software, project management software and Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Take responsibility to become familiar with and comply with relevant Company policies.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative mindset and participate in team activities, including meetings, seminars, video projects, and group photographs.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science or related field is required. SCS Cosmetic Science Diploma is advantageous.
  • 3+ years experience developing formulations for personal care or beauty product development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work meticulously to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of experimental results.
  • Ability to analyse and communicate data in meaningful and accessible ways (reports / presentations).
  • Ability to explain technical terms and language in a clear and understandable manner to a lay audience.
  • Strong knowledge of cosmetic science, including ingredient functionality, stability, and interaction with the skin or hair.
  • Solid understanding of product stability testing, quality control, and manufacturing processes.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot formulation issues effectively.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines, such as EU Cosmetic Regulation.
