A leading cleaning and hygiene chemical manufacturing business has exclusively partnered with Woodstock Recruitment to support them in their search for their next Junior Development Chemist. Although the role is initially to cover 12 - 15 months of maternity cover, with the ambitious growth plans of the business, there may well be an opportunity for a permanent hire in due course. You will join a chemistry team that Woodstock Recruitment has had the pleasure of helping build over several years, with a great vibe and working atmosphere.
What you will do:
- Conduct testing of raw materials, finished goods and first off samples; also βbugβ tests and application of identification labels.
- Liaising with Technical department to alert of any problems with raw materials or finished goods.
- Daily calibrations of SG, RI and pH meters.
- Daily calibration of COD Photometer; conduct daily COD testing.
- Overall responsibility for the Lab email inbox. Responding to emails and/or forwarding to team members as appropriate.
- Managing the Daily Batch Record board, ensuring it is completed accurately every day, and taking & filing a photo at the very end (or beginning of the next) working day.
- Preparing Packing Specifications, Check Weigh Sheets, pallet labels and carton labels for Production.
- Filing of finished Work Orders.
- Storage and disposal of retained samples of raw materials, finished goods and first off samples.
- Locating retained samples in instances of customer complaints; passing samples to Technical department so they can complete the Lab Report.
- Maintaining current Standard samples.
- Conduct product stability trials and performance testing.
- Prepare product samples for customers and sales team.
- Monitor batch failures and assist Development Chemist to undertake appropriate specification, formulation and MoM changes to minimise future batch failures.
- Support commercial colleagues with technical enquiries.
- Customer liaison, including on-site visits to aid in the resolution of technical enquiries.
What you will need:
- BSc in Chemistry or higher or closely related subject
- Any experience in a chemistry lab environment is a bonus
- Any experience in QC/Development chemistry in FMCG chemicals or personal care manufacturing is a big plus
- A 'can do' attitude and a friendly personality will fit in very well with the team.
