This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for cleaning tanker vehicles and moving them safely around the yard. You'll be working as part of a team to keep operations running smoothly, making sure tankers are cleaned to the right standard and in the right place when needed. Day to day, you'll be using cleaning equipment, following safety procedures, and driving a shunter vehicle to move trailers and tankers between areas on site.

Tank Wash Duties

  • Carry out internal and external cleaning of tankers and trailers to company and industry standards
  • Operate tank washing equipment, including high-pressure hoses and cleaning systems
  • Follow strict procedures for cleaning different product types to avoid contamination
  • Complete all relevant cleaning documentation and certification accurately
  • Dispose of waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations
  • Ensure wash bay areas are kept clean, organised, and safe at all times

Shunter Driver Duties

  • Safely manoeuvre and position trailers, tankers, and vehicles within the yard and designated areas
  • Couple and uncouple trailers in line with company procedures
  • Conduct daily vehicle and trailer safety checks, reporting any defects promptly
  • Ensure correct parking, alignment, and allocation of trailers for loading/unloading
  • Maintain clear communication with transport planners, drivers, and warehouse staff
  • Adhere to all site speed limits, traffic rules, and health & safety regulations
  • Assist with yard organisation to maximise efficiency and safety

Health & Safety

  • Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times as required
  • Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Follow safe systems of work, particularly when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment

Skills & Experience Required

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence (preferred but not essential)
  • Previous experience in a shunting, yard operative, or similar role
  • Experience with tanker operations or tank cleaning (desirable)
  • Good understanding of health & safety practices within a transport or industrial environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards
  • Good communication skills

Working Hours

Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. Overtime may be available depending on operational needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Physically fit to handle manual tasks and operate equipment
  • Comfortable working at height and in confined spaces (training provided where necessary)
