Woods' Silver Fleet, a family-owned business for over seventy years, offers a fleet of luxurious ‘river yachts’ for exclusive private and corporate events on the Thames. Based at Woods Quay in the heart of London on Victoria Embankment, they provide unique experiences, including private celebrations, civil ceremonies, weddings, and corporate events. The fleet comprises the Silver Sturgeon, Silver Barracuda, Riverscape, Silver Bonito, Silver Raven, Silver Sockeye and Silver Darling, each offering bespoke luxury and varying guest capacities.

This is a full-time role for a Captain based in Central London for our sightseeing fleet. The Captain will be responsible for the safe navigation, operation, and management of Woods’ Silver Fleet vessels, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and safety standards. Key tasks include:

  • Overseeing ship management
  • Conducting pre‑voyage checks
  • Supervising the crew
  • Liaising with our sightseeing partners to ensure exceptional services for clients
  • Maintaining the presentation and operational readiness of the vessel

The Captain will also play a role in training and mentoring the crew to ensure the highest level of service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Maritime expertise, including professional seafaring qualifications, navigation skills, and a sound knowledge of maritime legislation and safety regulations
  • Proven leadership, people management, and teamwork skills, with experience in leading and mentoring a crew
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, the events team, and other stakeholders
  • Experience with vessel maintenance, operation, and management in a professional capacity
  • Customer service orientation and ability to ensure an excellent guest experience
  • Problem‑solving abilities and the capability to handle unexpected challenges effectively and calmly
  • Previous experience in managing events or providing hospitality services is an advantage
  • Familiarity with the Thames or similar waterways is a plus but not essential
