The Colchester site is also the Centre of Excellence for the group for all Axial, Air Movement and Fire Safety products and serves to enable product & system sales in Building Services, Industrial, Original Equipment, and Tunnel & Metro applications globally. Manufacturing activities on site in Colchester include Assembly, Product Test, Stamping, Machining, Fabrication, and metal forming. Main Purpose of Role The Production Area Manager (PAM) will be accountable for the delivery of all targets and strategy, with a strong focus on continuous improvement across all KPI’s. Working alongside their counterparts and the Head of Operations to develop the structure, organize and delegate workloads and the production plan accordingly, the Production Area Manager will lead with direction and visibly while demonstrating the core organizational values, influencing a culture of dignity and respect. Main Duties & Responsibilities: This job description is not regarded to be exhaustive of all duties and activities required by the post. The post is subject to the needs of the business and will develop and change in line with the ongoing development of the role. Safety Audit the delivery of H&S initiatives including 5S. Delivering any pertinent communications to the team and addressing any first line issues raised. Conduct department safety walks – plan and delegate findings. Consult with HR on any non-compliance with occupational health surveillance or if further investigation is required. Lead accident/near miss/H&S investigations alongside H&S Lead – plan and delegate any findings or recommendations. Lead Risk assessments and review - plan and delegate any findings or recommendations. People Responsible for accurate Time and Attendance entries for team, adjusting where necessary. Manage people management issues at informal stage and formal stage 1 & 2 for performance and attendance, stage 1 for disciplinary. Conduct and grievance investigations when required. Own all administration relating to formal people management cases, ensuring all paperwork complete and retained in accordance with policy and legislation after any informal process. Define and plan workforce training & development plans. Direct point of contact for all Agency staff issues from request to start date. Lead for area 121’s and yearly appraisals – include SMART objectives. Manage LTS attendance cases. Define and plan capacity model for the area. Responsible for planning of new starter orientation. Quality Collaborate with Quality and OPEX to identify trend and define control measures/actions. Audit Q-gate processes. Conduct Quality investigations where necessary and action any findings or recommendations. Delivery Define and review KPI’s relating to quality, on-time-delivery (OTD) and productivity. Accountable for the delivery of the production plan within the capacity model. Deliver SIOP forecast month on month, adjusting headcount to suit. Collect data and cascade information for daily Gemba walk. Audit and review standard operating procedures (SOPs). Audit and review MeVisio data. Understand and build business continuity/recovery plan. Collaborate with Production Engineers to build a TPM plan for all equipment and review/audit. Support ongoing projects and delegate. Cost Lead scrap reduction projects and cost reduction initiatives. Identify growth and continuous improvements. Plan capacity model and staffing levels in line with departmental budget. Person Specification/Profile Minimum of 5 years’ experience in production leadership and management. Proven experience of ‘lean’ manufacturing techniques. Proven track record of achieving and exceeding deliverable targets. Knowledge of the SMART objective model. Initiative-taking with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Ability to motivate others to meet demands established by a busy schedule. Excellent verbal and numerical reasoning skills, able to communicate at all levels.
