The predicted salary is between 22700 - 25000 £ per year.

32.5 hours per week, Term time only plus 5 training days, Monday - Friday 8.15 - 3.15pm, Grade 2 SCP 5-6.

Purpose of the Role

To provide dedicated one-to-one support for a Year 7 student who uses a wheelchair, ensuring full access to learning, the curriculum, school facilities and wider school life. The postholder will work closely with teaching staff, the SEND team, parents/carers and external professionals to implement appropriate academic, physical and pastoral support, enabling the student to achieve her full potential and develop increasing independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Academic Support
    • Provide individual support during lessons to facilitate engagement, participation and progress across the curriculum.
    • Adapt learning materials and resources under the direction of teaching staff to ensure accessibility.
    • Support the student in recording work, organising resources and managing lesson transitions where required.
    • Reinforce teacher instructions and clarify learning objectives to promote understanding.
    • Assist with the implementation of SEND support plans, provision maps and any recommendations from external agencies.
    • Monitor and record academic progress, providing feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
    • Support the development of independent learning skills and self-advocacy.
  • Physical Support
    • Assist the student in safely navigating the school site, including movement between lessons and access to facilities.
    • Support with the safe use of specialist equipment and any agreed mobility aids.
    • Ensure classroom layouts and learning environments remain accessible and safe.
    • Assist with emergency evacuation procedures in accordance with the student’s Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP).
    • Liaise with site staff and teaching colleagues to identify and remove barriers to access.
  • Inclusion and Wellbeing
    • Promote the student’s social inclusion, confidence and participation in school life.
    • Encourage positive peer relationships and independence whilst maintaining appropriate support.
    • Support attendance at enrichment activities, educational visits and extracurricular opportunities where appropriate.
    • Monitor wellbeing and communicate any concerns promptly to relevant staff.
    • Maintain high expectations and foster resilience, confidence and self-esteem.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Work closely with class teachers to plan and deliver appropriate adjustments and reasonable accommodations.
    • Attend review meetings, SEND meetings and training as required.
    • Liaise professionally with parents/carers and external professionals, including therapists and advisory services, when directed.
    • Maintain accurate records of support provided and progress observed.
  • Safeguarding and Professional Responsibilities
    • Adhere to all school policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, equality and SEND policies.
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
    • Participate in relevant professional development and training.
    • Undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
