Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world. Wood is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer on a contract basis, outside IR35, to join our Consulting business unit based in Staines or Aberdeen on a hybrid basis.

The Role

This role involves comprehensive geotechnical expertise across offshore and onshore environments. It includes analysing soil-pipe interactions for various seabed conditions like sand, clay, and silt, and designing foundations for subsea structures using mud mats or piles, with seismic considerations. Additionally, the position demands strong capabilities in geohazard assessment, including desk studies, geological interpretation of geophysical data, and site reconnaissance.

Responsibilities

  • Subsea pipe soil interaction (PSI) calculations for sand, stiff clay, soft clay and silt seabed conditions.
  • Offshore geotechnical survey specification, including all survey equipment relevant to subsea pipeline and structures design, on site and laboratory testing and all final geotechnical reporting.
  • Soil interaction design of Subsea structures with mud mat and/or pile foundations, including seismic.
  • Landfall construction design geotechnics: including open cut constructions, micro and HDD tunnelling, sheet piled coffer dam construction.
  • Use your technical skills to deliver high quality services in geohazard investigations studies related to pipeline and other linear asset projects.
  • Perform preliminary geohazard desk studies for site selection.
  • Prepare geohazard analysis based on geological interpretation of geophysical data.
  • Input into pipeline protection design in fault crossings, as well as foundation design in seismic areas.
  • Participate in project site visits / pipeline route reconnaissance and geotechnical site survey activities.
  • Provide, review, and input into nearshore and onshore site investigations.
  • Carry out Scour analysis.
  • Nearshore wave and seismic triggered liquefaction calculations.
  • Seismic effects on seabed and onshore surface soils.
  • Geotechnical matters relating to onshore and offshore foundation design and pile and caisson design and construction.
  • Interpretation of for example GIR documents and ensuring correct use of data in design and analysis.
  • Application and understanding of geotechnical specifications and design codes, to include SUT, DNV, ISO and BS.
  • Production of geotechnical documents and reports to include ITT documents, GI Reports, Geotechnical Interpretative Reports, Basis of Design etc.

  • Graduated from an accredited university with a degree in Geotechnical, Civil or Geological Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in civil, geotechnical or related experience in design of marine/offshore systems.
  • Experience with design and construction of offshore pipeline, subsea structure and cable projects.
  • Experience with design and construction of general marine projects.
  • Experience managing/working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
