Wood is recruiting a Civils Operative for SAGE St Fergus Gas Terminal on a staff basis. Candidates must live a daily commutable distance to site. Travel & accommodation is not included.

Responsibilities

  • The Civils Operative is responsible for the safe planning, coordination and execution of civil, infrastructure and grounds maintenance activities across the SAGE Gas Terminal.
  • The role combines hands‑on practical civil maintenance with planning, permit control and contractor oversight, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with site standards, CDM requirements and permit‑to‑work systems.
  • Plan, organise, raise permits and oversee contractors carrying out civil works including road resurfacing, concrete repairs, slab laying and paving.
  • Oversee CDM projects including excavations and remedial repairs.
  • Scope, plan and deliver infrastructure repairs including storm damage and roof leaks.
  • Liaise with vendors and manage contractors for specialist civil tasks.
  • Produce and manage permits for civils activities.
  • Review RAMS to ensure site‑specific risks are addressed.
  • Raise and execute work orders and conduct planned preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records for all civils activities.
  • Operate site plant and equipment including tractor, vacuum tanker, forklift and cherry picker.
  • Mentor contractors to ensure safe systems of work.
  • Undertake general civil and infrastructure maintenance tasks.
  • Support winter maintenance activities including snow clearing and gritting.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Time‑served civils, construction or infrastructure background, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in industrial or process plant environments preferred.
  • Competence in operating site plant and lifting equipment.
  • CDM and permit‑to‑work experience desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong practical knowledge of civil and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience with permit‑to‑work systems and contractor management.
  • Good planning, organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong safety leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and record keeping skills.
