Main duties of the job:
- We are ideally looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team. However, someone new to the role who shows the qualities we are looking for and is willing to embark on a training programme will be considered.
- You will be a motivated individual who gets satisfaction in seeing a task through to completion; following through on actions is paramount.
- You will have good time management with the ability to work to deadlines and targets.
- Being flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the patient and the Practice is key.
- Experience in a health care setting is desirable.
The role fulfils health care reviews with our patients covering:
- Collect and record measurement of height, weight and urinalysis.
- Measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
- Peak flow measurements.
- Recording of ECGs.
- Recognising changes in patients' observations.
- Assisting clinicians in emergency management of patients.
- Act as a chaperone.
- Provide relevant health promotion literature to patients.
As you progress or if you are experienced, you will also be doing Flu immunisations, Diabetic Foot Checks and other more advanced work. The salary will change to reflect the additional skills (within the given range).
This is a part-time role for approx. 24-30 hours a week. Working days to be discussed but will include Mondays & Fridays. The role will work in both our surgeries: Tilgate Way, Crawley and Vicarage Lane, Horley.
About us:
Woodlands and Clerklands Partnership is a 2-centred Practice across Horley and Crawley, caring for approx. 17,500 patients. We are also an approved GP and Medical Student Training Centre.
Job responsibilities:
- Work alongside the clinician(s) in the provision of patient care.
- Undertake and record the following tasks: measurement of height and weight, urinalysis, measurement of blood pressure, temperature and pulse, peak flow measurements, recording of ECGs, venepuncture.
- Recognise changes in the patients' observations which must be reported and acted on.
- Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients.
- Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team.
- Act as a chaperone.
- Appreciate the principles of Healthy Living.
- Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients' care.
- Clearly present patients' point of view to others.
- Ensure stock items are ordered and provided in GP & Management treatment rooms, emergency equipment.
- Maintain clinical equipment efficiently and ensure servicing is undertaken.
- Follow infection control standards.
- Contribute new ideas to improve patient care.
- Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks.
- Work effectively in a team.
- Interact with patients and colleagues in a professional manner.
- Maintain set standards of organisation in treatment practice rooms.
- Take appropriate action if standards are not being met.
- Recognise potential areas of conflict, preventing where possible and reporting to senior members of staff if unable to resolve.

Experience:
- Practical experience of working with others in a caring environment.
- Practical experience of computerised recording systems.
- Experience of working within a General Practice or Health Care Setting.
Qualifications:
- Good standard of general education - Essential.
- Qualified in Phlebotomy - Desirable.
