Estate Ranger - South Assynt Collaboration

Salary: £30,670 Per Annum

The Woodland Trust is looking for an Estate Ranger in our Scotland team to work closely with the Landscape Partnership Manager and colleagues across the organisation, to help realise the vision for the South Assynt Collaboration Project – an ecological regeneration initiative to create a thriving and robust mosaic of native woodland and open habitats that improves the environment and create a healthier, more resilient home for wildlife and people.

The Role:

• This is an exciting opportunity as we are looking for an Estate Ranger to support the Landscape Partnership Manager on the planning and delivery of the work programme, including woodland creation, protection, restoration and management. There will be a strong focus on ecological monitoring to ensure habitats across the Assynt Foundation estates are being protected and enhanced. A core responsibility will be to inform, engage and involve all key stakeholders, and the local community, in delivery of the project.
• Supervise contractors and manage contracts to ensure all aspects of woodland creation, protection and restoration are planned and delivered safely and effectively.
• Undertake wildlife and habitat monitoring on the Assynt Foundation estates to ensure the impact of our management can be measured.
• Build relationships with local communities and other stakeholders to encourage their involvement in project activities and tasks, such as tree planting, monitoring, and information sharing to help deliver the project and maximise community benefit.
• This role is based in Northwest Scotland and will require the successful candidate to undertake travel to site, and potentially to other parts of Scotland or the UK.

• A company vehicle will be provided to enable the post-holder to carry out their duties. Because of the nature of this role, this will be a double-cab pick-up 4×4 vehicle. It is likely that this vehicle will be provided to you for business use only, however, the Trust will discuss the vehicle and your individual circumstances as part of the recruitment process.

The Candidate:

• You have an enthusiasm for the environment and share our core values-Grow Together, Explore, Focus and Make it Count. More details on our values can be found in the Job Description.
• Educated to HND / degree level or similar in conservation, forestry, land management, or equivalent experience.
• This is a key role in our Scotland team and for candidates to stand out, we are looking for experience in supervising site management contracts and contractors and managing health and safety on site.
• Previous experience and knowledge in wildlife and habitat conservation, including undertaking wildlife and habitat monitoring and surveys.
• Motivated, and able to work safely in remote areas, often unsupervised.
• Confident in building and developing partnerships with external and internal stakeholders and able to influence different audiences including communities and volunteers.
• You will have a full clean UK driving licence.
