Woodland Partners are working with this global Insurance Broker on an urgent need for a Technical Finance Consultant to lead the implementation of the revised FRS 102 across the Group, including the technical analysis, design and roll‑out of the revised revenue and lease requirements. They will make sure the Group's accounting policies, processes, systems and disclosures comply with the new rules. They will also make sure the changes are built into the ERP‑led Finance transformation.
Key responsibilities include:
Technical accounting and policy
- Carry out an impact assessment of FRS 102 revised revenue and lease accounting across the Group
- Analyse revenue streams under the prescribed five‑step model
- Work through judgements specific to insurance broking, including: placement versus post‑placement services, variable consideration, principal versus agent
- Draft and update Group accounting policies, technical position papers and judgement memos to a standard that can be audited, and obtain the external auditors' approval of the technical papers.
Process and systems implementation
- Turn the accounting requirements into business and functional requirements for the finance and connected policy administration systems.
- Work with the Finance transformation programme's process owners to make sure solution design, configuration and testing reflect the new requirements.
- Design or refine journal processes, deferral and accrual calculations, reconciliations and month‑end routines for revenue.
- Define how deferred revenue on post‑placement obligations and profit commission estimates are governed.
Controls, reporting and disclosure
- Design and document key controls over revenue recognition judgements, estimates and system logic, aligned with the Group's internal control framework.
- Prepare the new disclosures required under revised FRS 102 and the transition disclosures for the statutory accounts.
- Agree technical positions with the external auditors and get their approval of the revenue and lease technical papers and models ahead of the year‑end audit.
- Work with Group Tax on the tax effects of transition adjustments and timing differences.
- Report progress, risks and decisions to the Financial Control leadership team.
Skills required
- ACA/ACCA qualified or equivalent.
- In depth technical knowledge of FRS 102, including the 2024 periodic review amendments (strong working knowledge of IFRS 15 and IFRS 16 would be beneficial).
- Experience of implementing new revenue recognition and lease accounting standards end to end, from impact assessment through to embedded processes and disclosures.
- Experience turning accounting requirements into system and process design, ideally on an ERP implementation.
- Experience building robust, reusable accounting models (revenue and leases) in Excel or similar tools.
