The children, staff and Governors of Woodland Community Primary School are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, creative and inspirational Before School Club Assistant to join our caring and aspirational team. Woodland Community Primary School is a warm and supportive community with high ambitions for pupils’ achievement and behaviour. Pupils and staff enjoy excellent relationships, feel happy and well cared for, and are excited to contribute to school life. They have many opportunities to learn outside the classroom and explore their local area, and are particularly proud to represent the school in sporting events. As a result of significant improvements to the teaching of English and mathematics in recent years, pupils are making rapid gains in their learning (Ofsted, February 2025).

Based in fantastic grounds and with amazing resources, Woodland Community Primary School is a happy, inclusive school with high standards of behaviour. The primary role of the Before School Club Assistant is to ensure that the children have a safe and happy environment during the before school club provision. Based initially in the school hall, duties will include:

  • Supervising and assisting children in the dining room
  • Organising and providing the children with a programme of activities suitable to their age range
  • Assisting with serving breakfast
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment for all users

We are looking for applicants who understand the importance of high standards of hygiene in a food environment and who have a commitment to ensure that our children have an active and happy start to the school day.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be enthusiastic, creative, innovative and prepared to ‘roll their sleeves up and have a go’
  • Have high expectations of pupils' behaviour
  • Be an excellent communicator who is committed to being proactive in working in positive partnership with all stakeholders
  • Be willing to involve themselves in, and support, the wider aspects of school life

In return we can offer:

  • A happy, inclusive and supportive school environment
  • Children who are polite, well behaved and enthusiastic learners
  • Excellent support for your professional development
  • A welcoming, friendly and extremely hardworking staff team

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring background check. The ability to converse at ease with customers and service users and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement of this post. Applicants are advised that by applying for this position they are declaring that they are not subject to any immigration controls or restrictions that prohibit them undertaking work in the UK, and that they are able to provide proof of their Right to Work in the UK if they are invited to attend an interview. The school will carry out an online search as part of their due diligence for all shortlisted candidates in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 (para 220).
