Are you a Building Surveyor looking for a role that offers genuine variety, exposure to a broad range of property types, and a clear route for career progression? A growing and established property and construction consultancy is looking to appoint a Building Surveyor to join its Manchester office. This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor who wants to develop their career within a forward thinking consultancy, working across both project and professional services and gaining exposure to a diverse range of instructions.

The role offers a broad and varied workload, and if you have a particular preference for either project based or professional surveying work, the balance of your workload can be tailored around your existing experience and strengths.

The Role

  • You will be involved in a wide variety of building surveying instructions across residential, commercial and industrial properties, covering both new build developments and refurbishment or repurposing projects.
  • Your responsibilities may include:
    • Carrying out a range of building inspections and surveys, including condition surveys, defect inspections and assessments of maintenance requirements.
    • Providing compliance and regulatory advice, covering areas such as Building Regulations, health and safety standards, fire safety and relevant environmental legislation.
    • Undertaking site and measured surveys, including occasional surveys of land and buildings.
    • Carrying out site inspections to monitor works and ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and regulations.
    • Supporting the design and feasibility of modifications, refurbishments, extensions and complete new-build projects.
    • Preparing feasibility reports and advising on compliance requirements.
    • Reviewing designs from a technical perspective to ensure they meet relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Working closely with clients, contractors, architects, engineers and other project stakeholders.
    • Providing project management services across a range of schemes.
    • Undertaking contract administration and supporting the successful delivery of construction projects.
    • Providing risk management advice and identifying potential technical and building-related risks.
    • Working across a varied portfolio of instructions, with the opportunity to broaden your experience across different sectors and disciplines.

This is a role where no two days are likely to be the same, making it particularly well suited to a Building Surveyor who enjoys variety and wants to avoid being restricted to one narrow area of the profession.

About You

  • The ideal candidate will have:
    • Experience working as a Building Surveyor, ideally within a consultancy environment.
    • Client side experience within a relevant property, construction or real estate environment will also be considered.
    • A broad understanding of building surveying and an interest in developing experience across both professional and project services.
    • Ideally, MRICS status or be actively working towards chartership.
    • A strong technical understanding and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and other project stakeholders.
    • A proactive approach to career development and a desire to take on increasing responsibility.

If you are working towards your MRICS, full support and training will be provided to help you achieve your professional goals.

Career Progression

One of the major attractions of this opportunity is the genuine scope for career progression. There is a clear pathway from Surveyor to Senior Surveyor, Senior to Associate and beyond, with no artificial glass ceilings in place. Progression is based on performance, contribution and achievements, rather than simply waiting for a position to become available. For the right individual, this is an opportunity to join a business where you can build a long-term career and progress as quickly as your ability and performance merit.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary up to £60k depending on experience
  • Additional benefits and package
  • Hybrid working typically 2 or 3 days in the Manchester office and 2 or 3 days working from home
  • Flexibility around the balance of project and professional services work
  • Full support and training towards MRICS, where required
  • Genuine career progression through to Senior, Associate and beyond
  • A varied workload across residential, commercial and industrial property
  • Exposure to both new build and refurbishment/repurposing projects

There may be a requirement to spend a little more time in the office during the initial stages of joining the business, helping you to integrate with the team, understand the business and establish strong working relationships. The longer-term working arrangement will then move towards the established hybrid model.
