Woodfield School is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Class Teacher to join our supportive specialist school in Merstham, Surrey. We provide education for secondary-aged pupils and students in Post-16 provision with learning and additional needs, including Moderate Learning Difficulties and co-occurring needs. Our approach combines ambitious, accessible learning with a strong focus on communication, independence and preparation for adulthood. We welcome applications from qualified teachers with specialist SEND experience, as well as primary and secondary teachers who can demonstrate relevant skills and a commitment to teaching pupils with SEND. The role You will create an engaging and inclusive classroom where pupils feel safe, valued and confident to try. Working closely with teaching assistants and other colleagues, you will plan and deliver learning that responds to individual needs while maintaining high expectations of every pupil. You will:

Responsibilities

  • plan and teach accessible, appropriately challenging lessons;
  • adapt teaching, activities and resources to pupils' learning and communication needs;
  • assess progress and use this information to inform next steps;
  • support positive behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing;
  • deploy classroom support staff effectively;
  • work collaboratively with families and other professionals; and
  • help pupils develop independence and skills for everyday life.

Safeguarding is central to the role. You will maintain professional boundaries, recognise and report concerns promptly, and follow the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • You will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and bring:
  • effective classroom practice and a commitment to helping pupils with SEND succeed;
  • an understanding of barriers to learning and how teaching can help overcome them;
  • high expectations of pupils' achievement, behaviour and participation;
  • a calm, flexible and reflective approach;
  • strong communication and teamwork skills; and
  • the ability to build positive, professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

  • Salary: Main Pay Scale to Upper Pay Scale (Fringe), plus SEN allowance
