Join us in shaping a practice people want to work in and patients want to join. Woodcote Medical is seeking a people-centred Practice Manager to lead on governance, workforce, patient engagement, retention, and sustainable growth across our two-site organisation.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for leadership, staff development, and high-quality care. Working closely with the GP Partners, Business Manager, Operations Manager, and Patient Services Leads, you will play a pivotal role in building a thriving, values-driven workplace culture while ensuring robust governance and patient satisfaction.

Woodcote Medical is a well-established suburban practice with approx. 18,000 patients across two vibrant locations. Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, ANPs, a Paramedic, Nurses, HCAs, First Contact Physios, and a large administrative and patient services team. We are a teaching practice for pharmacists, medical students, and GP Registrars, and we take pride in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to our communities in Purley and Coulsdon.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead on Governance & Quality
  • Ensure the practice meets and exceeds CQC regulatory standards, preparing for inspections and embedding ongoing quality assurance.
  • Lead on clinical and non-clinical governance processes, including audits, risk management, compliance, and policy development.
  • Strengthen systems, processes, and reporting structures to support safe and effective care.
  • Develop and implement a practice-wide people strategy, focusing on retention, wellbeing, talent development, and workforce planning.
  • Support managers and team leads to develop strong, engaged teams across both sites.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance staff satisfaction, resilience, and sense of belonging.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and learning-focused workplace culture.
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient experience, satisfaction, and loyalty, ensuring patients choose to remain registered with the practice.
  • Use patient feedback, complaints, compliments, survey data, and service utilisation trends to identify opportunities for improvement and service development.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to enhance access, communication, and continuity of care across both practice sites.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain patients, supporting sustainable list growth and strengthening the practice's reputation within the local community.
  • Champion patient engagement initiatives, including participation groups, community outreach, digital communication channels, and health promotion campaigns.
  • Monitor patient registration, retention, and engagement metrics, providing regular analysis and recommendations to GP Partners and the management team.
  • Support the development of innovative services that meet the changing needs of the practice population while contributing to organisational sustainability and growth.

Experience

  • Experienced in people management, HR, governance, or quality improvement, ideally within the NHS or a regulated environment.
  • A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about staff wellbeing, organisational culture, and high-quality patient care.
  • Able to think strategically while also delivering operational improvements.
  • Skilled at building relationships and working collaboratively across teams and sites.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable with complexity and change.
  • Experience in primary care is desirable but not essential for the right candidate with strong governance and workforce leadership experience.
