Wood is currently recruiting for a Well Operations Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas and Petrochemical Industries on a contract basis. Hybrid working – Client office at Northop, with agile working condition (8-10 days SW per month).
The Role
You will diligently plan, engineer, organise, support and report on the client’s well operations and well abandon operations in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, achieving technical objectives by applying accepted engineering practices.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and control cost, schedule, and performance of wells activities in line with approved AFEs and budgets.
- Track KPIs, cost drivers, and variances, identifying risks and opportunities for performance and cost optimization.
- Support preparation, review, and forecasting of AFEs and decommissioning cost estimates.
- Ensure accurate cost reporting, accruals, and performance visibility, interfacing with operations, contractors, and finance.
- Support operations during planning and execution of well activities, ensuring alignment between technical execution, schedule, and cost performance.
- Contribute to the planning of exploration and development and abandonment projects providing technical inputs to the project teams, in order to optimise cost on well operations.
- Monitor and track operational costs and performance across projects and activities, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and forecasts.
- Support preparation, review, and validation of AFEs, cost estimates, and financial forecasts.
- Analyze cost drivers, performance KPIs, and variances versus plan, identifying trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure timely and accurate cost reporting, including accruals, commitments, and actuals.
- Interface with technical, operations, and finance teams to ensure consistency between technical execution and cost performance.
- Provide advice in reviewing the scope of work and technical specifications.
- Providing advice and technical specifications during pre-qualification and tender evaluation phases in order to ensure that the choice of contractors and suppliers fully meet with technical targets and company standards.
- Attend and drive risk assessment of the operations together with HSE Department.
- Appraise new technology products to determine their applications in client’s well operations and abandonment operations, in order to improve time cost performance and safety conditions.
- Prepare all relevant documents for well operations and abandonment requested by regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and review the drilling and abandonment final reports and ensure technical support post-activity and post-project reviews, capturing lessons learned and performance benchmarks.
- Update technical improvements and suggest appropriate materials/equipment (e.g. drilling bits, downhole tools, motors, etc).
- To ensure full adherence to the Company’s Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures and standards.
