Based in Aberdeen, this role offers flexible hybrid working and the opportunity to support global clients through front‑end engineering, technical assurance, and strategic decision‑making across subsea and energy transition projects. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy problem definition, option evaluation, and client‑facing technical advisory work, and who want to influence project outcomes from concept selection through to execution and operation.

The Role

  • As a Subsea Controls Systems Engineer / Senior Engineer, you will provide independent, technically robust advice on subsea control systems and their application across the project lifecycle.
  • Assess and compare system concepts, architectures, and technologies.
  • Support clients in making informed, risk‑aware technical decisions.
  • Translate complex technical topics into clear, defensible recommendations.
  • Provide technical leadership for defined scopes, depending on experience.
  • Mentor junior engineers and represent Wood in client and vendor engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subsea controls engineering input to concept studies, pre‑FEED, and FEED phases.
  • Evaluate alternative system architectures, technologies, and execution strategies.
  • Develop and review consultancy deliverables such as design philosophies, option selection studies, and technical specifications.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, influencing key design and procurement decisions.
  • Participate in design, safety, and technical assurance reviews.
  • Interface with vendors to understand capabilities and emerging technologies.
  • Support brownfield assessments, life extension studies, and operability reviews.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to integrate controls considerations early.

Qualifications Expected

  • Degree‑qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, System Engineering).
  • Experience in subsea controls or related control, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.
  • Clear technical report writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience contributing to concept selection, FEED, or early‑phase subsea studies.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of electro‑hydraulic or all‑electric subsea control systems.
  • Understanding of SCMs, power and communication systems.
  • Experience in electrical and/or hydraulic analysis techniques.
