Wood is a multidisciplinary environmental and engineering company and includes a well-established landscape planning practice, supported by in-house planners, environmental, transport, engineering and stakeholder engagement teams.

The Wood Landscape Team offers a broad spectrum of landscape planning and design expertise for projects across the UK. We have advised on landscape and visual matters for numerous onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen and solar array developments, nuclear power stations, minerals projects, electricity transmission projects, major transport infrastructure and various housing / mixed-used developments of different scales.

This is an exciting time to join our growing business with a wide range of projects across all the major development sectors. Due to our current and expanding portfolio of projects, we are seeking a Senior / Principal landscape architect / landscape planner to join our friendly and supportive team based in Shrewsbury, Newcastle or Glasgow. Depending on your level of experience and role, you will be involved in delivering Landscape Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA’s) and related workstreams including strategic landscape feasibility studies and iterative scheme design inputs that frequently involve landscape mitigation advice for colleagues and clients.

Qualifications

We are looking for a landscape architect / landscape planner with relevant experience who is able to display technical rigour and a proactive approach to project delivery. You will need a sound grounding in landscape planning including LVIA.

You can expect to enjoy a challenging and varied role and will typically be authoring and providing input to a range of technical assessments. You will also be a team player, happy to share knowledge, collaborate and support others.

You will have experience working in a consultancy environment, be Chartered or working towards chartership and be able to demonstrate:

  • A sound understanding of landscape legislation, policy and guidance
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of relevant guidance for LVIA, with experience of undertaking robust LVIAs for different types and scales of development
  • An understanding of the landscape character assessment process and application to landscape sensitivity and capacity assessments and development of landscape strategies and guidelines
  • Excellent written and communication skills and the ability to interact comfortably with people at all levels and across multiple disciplines
  • Experience in graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop / Wind Farm software is desirable but not essential
