Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Welding & Materials Engineer to provide integrity engineering consultancy services to the Wood client base covering sub-sea facilities, pipelines, risers, topsides and on and offshore plant. We are interested to speak with engineers with an experience level sufficient to develop and lead workscopes and projects and provide mentoring support and guidance to less experienced colleagues. Wood has a number of offices located throughout the UK and flexibility in working location is offered, with hybrid office/home working and remote working solutions available. The role may require infrequent site/offshore visits.
Typical workscopes included within the remit of the Senior Welding & Materials Engineer are:
- Provision of technical support (welding and related metallurgical support) during all phases of engineering projects, including the development, qualification and review of welding procedures and inspection specifications, for the Client and Vendors.
- Interface with design / discipline engineers, manufacturers and fabrication contractors to ensure best practice and client specifications are applied to all stages of engineering projects.
- Witnessing of welding procedure and welder qualification testing and on-site manufacturing and fabrication activities.
- Review and approval of MPS / MPQT from Vendors.
- Input to Technical Bid Evaluations.
- Material Selection Assessments.
- Independent Advisor to Client.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Materials / Metallurgical or Welding Engineering from a recognized University or College. Alternatively, tertiary education and suitable experience may be used to demonstrate equivalent standards.
- Chartered or Professional Engineer status, preferably accredited by Engineering Council preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Formal training in welding applications associated with design and in-service materials.
- Formal training in Materials Engineering.
- Experience in managing and technically leading project work and managing client relations.
- Experience of managing, motivating and mentoring professional engineering specialists.
- Experience in developing technical proposals and bids.
Personal Skills:
- Demonstrate strong technical understanding of materials and welding engineering standard practices and communicate effectively with others on technical issues.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed to delivering first class materials and welding engineering services.
- Experience with carbon steel, low alloy steels, duplex stainless steel and Ni-base alloy welding, including writing and qualifying welding procedures, and review of subcontractor welding procedures, to client and international standards.
- Team player with good interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to those in a wide range of organisation positions.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve significant and unusual problems and generate substantial improvements to practices and procedures.
- Possess working familiarity with and an ability to apply relevant codes and standards.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Proven willingness to assume responsibility and seek out opportunities.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English, with good technical report writing skills.
