Wood Process & Energy is recruiting an experienced Senior C&I Designer on a minimum 6‑month contract duration, based from our office at Stockton. Hybrid working structure with a minimum of 3 days in the office. Remote working is possible but occasionally travel to the office or client site when required.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior instrument design on projects as required by the C&I Discipline Manager / Lead Engineer / Designer.
- Execute instrument design activities (Concept, FEED & Detailed Design).
- Carry out site surveys as required under the project instrument scope.
- Assess the effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems.
- Carry out work in accordance with company and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems.
- Maintain the required technical quality of work.
- Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process.
- Ensure that designs comply with the relevant procedures, standards and regulations.
- Ensure, as far as practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and schedule.
- Keep up to date with technical developments, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline.
- Responsible for delivering instrument design project work scope as required to desired quantity.
- Maintain good communication with the client and visit assets when necessary.

Qualifications
- Minimum HNC in Instrument Engineering or related subject.
- Experience with working on projects for the Energy, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Refining sectors.
- Experience with working within a project team as a Senior C&I designer and on C&I teams across a range of industry sectors, on small, medium and large capital projects from concept to start‑up.
- Be a self‑motivated team player working on own initiative with minimal supervision.
- Experience with development of instrument design deliverables as required on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Good understanding of applicable international codes and standards and their application.
- High level of competency with respect to AutoCAD 2D (required) and AVEVA PDMS E3D (desirable) software.
- Experience of managing, checking and delivering various deliverables including cable block diagrams, instrument schedules, layout and routing drawings, and more.
- Strong understanding of plant design and equipment layout and ability to coordinate with other discipline design groups.
- Liaising with other disciplines as required.
- Coordination and governance of instrument workpacks for high‑value engineering centre.
