Reliability Engineer – Operated Assets

Wood is recruiting for a Reliability Engineer assigned to the Operated Assets function for a 12-month fixed term. The role will be based at the client’s Aberdeen City Centre office on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote).

The Reliability Engineer will improve the reliability, integrity, and safety of equipment and systems across operations using data‑driven analysis, engineering principles, and proactive maintenance strategies to reduce failures, optimise asset life, and support safe, cost‑effective operations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Asset Reliability & Performance
    • Analyse asset performance data to identify trends, recurring failures, and improvement opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain asset reliability models, including criticality assessments and failure mode analysis.
    • Implement reliability centred maintenance (RCM), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA/FMECA), and condition monitoring strategies.
  • Maintenance Strategy Development
    • Optimise preventive and predictive maintenance plans to ensure efficient asset care.
    • Recommend maintenance task changes based on reliability insights and operational performance.
    • Support digitalisation of maintenance data, KPIs, and dashboards.
  • Equipment Failure Investigation
    • Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and integrity issues.
    • Develop corrective and preventive actions, tracking implementation and effectiveness.
  • Surveillance & Ownership
    • Support pro‑active technical monitoring and exception‑based surveillance.
    • Conduct reviews of content and implementation of Technical Monitoring Plans (TMPs).
    • Support and provide guidance on frontline surveillance and equipment ownership.
  • Reliability Tools & Methods
    • Skill at applying techniques such as:
      • Condition monitoring (vibration, thermography, lubrication analysis).
      • Reliability statistics and modelling.
    • Knowledge of techniques such as:
      • Reliability growth and RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) modelling.
      • Weibull analysis.
  • Continuous Improvement & Standards
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime and optimise cost of ownership.
    • Ensure compliance with asset integrity standards, engineering procedures, and safety regulations.
    • Support engineering design reviews to incorporate reliability into new projects and modifications.
  • Cross Functional Support
    • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and HSE teams to ensure safe and reliable performance.
    • Provide technical guidance to maintenance engineers, technicians, and planners.
    • Participate in shutdown/turnaround planning and risk assessments.

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Reliability, or related).
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles (RCM, FMEA, RCA, reliability modelling).
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in CMMS/EAM systems (e.g. SAP).
  • Ability to interpret maintenance and asset performance data.

Desirable

  • Experience in oil & gas, manufacturing, chemicals, utilities, or heavy industry.
  • Offshore Certification such as BOSIET.
  • Certification such as CMRP, CRE, or equivalent.
  • Site experience in the introduction and development of reliability processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with condition monitoring techniques.
  • Root Cause Analysis Certification.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
