Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently looking for Principal Offshore Geotechnical Engineer’s on a contract basis.
In this role, you will be responsible to provide support to structural engineering activities to Wood projects currently under way, as well as acting as originator for selected engineering deliverables (specifications, procedures, computer analyses, calculations, 2D drawings, and engineering reports), whilst following all operational procedures.
The role will be based in Staines.
- Coordinates with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the above
- Undertakes interpretation of offshore site investigation reports to define soils parameters and capacities to be used in engineering offshore foundations
- Undertakes pile installation assessments and analyses to establish viability of foundation designs.
- Prepares foundation numerical models for incorporation into structural computer models - using SACS or equivalent offshore analysis suite.
- Foundation models address all in-service conditions, in-place, seismic, fatigue, ship impact, etc.
- Make recommendations for alternative foundation concepts and arrangements
- Ensures compliance with specifications as well as applicable code requirements and national / international standards.
- Support Client in specifying offshore site investigations and applicable testing.
- Prepares or checks design reports to fully document foundation design to demonstrate compliance with design codes and specifications
- Reviews relevant client provided data for geotechnical implications and requirements
- Reports on work status / problem areas / needs
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject.
- Chartered Engineer and member of appropriate engineering institution
- Experience in offshore substructure engineering and analysis
- Experience with use of GRLWEAP, SACS, and other applicable geotechnical software.
- Experience with a range of offshore foundation types including driven piles, drilled and grouted piles, gravity bases, etc.
- Understanding of the interpretation and parametrisation of cemented soils
- Willing to be part of a team, but also have a flexible approach when required to work in small groups
