Wood is looking for an experienced certified Principal Functional Safety Engineer who has a good understanding of IEC 61511 SIS Lifecycle model and has working knowledge and experience of the key SIS Lifecycle activities. This role will be working on a PSC contract outside IR35 and remote working in the UK can be an option.

Provide comprehensive functional safety lifecycle management to ensure project compliance with both client and Wood specifications, as well as applicable codes, regulations, and national/international standards.

  • Serve as the project focal point on Functional Safety for project definition, development, and execution.
  • Prepare or review key functional safety documentation, including the Functional Safety Plan, Functional Safety Management Procedures, Safety Requirements Specifications, SIS Impact Analysis, SIL Calculations, Emergency Depressurization and Blowdown Specifications, as well as SIL Verification and Validation Procedures.
  • Manage functional safety assessments, audits, security risk assessments and independent verification of lifecycle deliverables.
  • Utilise ExSILentia software for managing functional safety lifecycle activities.
  • Track and control project manhours for functional safety activities.
  • Conduct SIS verification and validation reviews according to project standards.
  • Oversee integration of safety systems and ensure project compliance with IEC 61511.
  • Ensure operator is supplied with the required documentation to allow the systems to be operated and maintained properly.
  • Participate as functional safety expert in HAZOP / CHAZOP activities.
  • Participate in Deterministic SIL Workshops as C&I Engineer.
  • Knowledge of modelling of complex SIS Loops using FTA (Isograph).
  • Develop, review and approve SIS Proof Test Procedures for end-to-end testing of SIF Loops.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines in the preparation and development of the functional safety deliverables and ensure that other disciplines' input is incorporated.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or instrumentation engineering.
  • CFSE or TUV FS certified engineer.
  • Significant experience in Brownfield upgrades / replacement automation and control projects.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443 and cybersecurity as applicable to functional safety is desirable.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively to manage multiple projects running concurrently.
  • Hands-on experience with ExSILentia and/or aeShield software.
