Wood is recruiting for a Principal Flow Assurance Engineer to join its Production Optimisation team within the Digital Consulting business unit. This position offers hybrid work flexibility and is open to applicants from across the UK, ideally those who can easily commute to our Aberdeen, Reading or Staines office.
To support continued growth within the Production Optimisation team in the UK, we are searching for a driven, solution-orientated and creative Principal Flow Assurance Engineer with technical knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and transport phenomena, and people leadership skills to play a leading role in both the traditional oil and gas and the energy transition markets.
As a Principal Engineer, you will manage large Flow Assurance projects ranging from conceptual to detailed engineering and operations support. You will have the opportunity to be involved in business development activities and work as part of a global team. This role is to manage key projects, develop technical proficiency within the company, assist in new opportunities and interfaces with key clients. You will have a solid technical background and be comfortable being a primary point of contact with senior clients and specialists.
You will primarily manage complete Flow Assurance projects and studies, supervising a team of engineers to deliver the required deliverables. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and management experience.
Our Production Optimisation team supports our clients to secure economic recovery from existing infrastructure, optimising assets and enabling extension of productive field life whilst accelerating the move towards net Zero. The work we do predominantly enables Energy security whilst we transition. However, we are also growing our services across Carbon Capture Utilisation and storage and transportation of Hydrogen and Ammonia. Responsibilities:
- Project management of medium and large project teams of flow assurance and process specialists
- Supervise a team of engineers and technical specialists responsible for complex technical tasks during project execution, ensuring quality and schedule compliance of planned deliverables
- Provide definition and approval of technical scopes for projects
- Assist in project set-up, including establishing project teams, organisation charts, schedules and execution plans to meet planned delivery milestones
- Provide technical leadership to clients, project teams, and contribute to the wider technical development of the Production Optimisation group
- Assist the Regional Manager in developing project proposals, bids and tender documents
- Assist with regional business development as required
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with the company quality management system
- Ensure that project objectives assigned by the Project Manager and Client are achieved
- Provide guidance and mentoring for more junior personnel
- Deliver effective, concise presentations internally and to clients
- Act as a client representative at technical meetings with third parties
Qualifications:

- Previous experience in flow assurance or process disciplines in Oil and Gas
- Recognised qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Master’s in Chemical or Petroleum engineering preferred)
- Considerable previous flow assurance and process experience in the Oil and Gas industry with an excellent technical background
- A proven track record in management of process and flow assurance projects and studies
- Proven experience in coaching the junior flow assurance and process engineers
- Extensive experience with major flow assurance software packages such as OLGA, Pipesim, Multi flash, Leda Flow
- Working knowledge / awareness of process engineering, and simulation using Hysys and/or Unisim
- Good knowledge of HAZOP, process safety and risk assessment
- Ability to independently establish effective working relations with client representatives
Desirable:
- Local market knowledge would be seen as an advantage
