Wood is seeking an experienced Shutdown Supervisor to lead the Welders, Platers and Pipe fitters on a planned outage based onsite in Teesside. This is a hands‑on role suited to a highly skilled supervisor with proven experience working within fast‑paced shutdown environments. Candidates must be safety‑focused, quality‑driven, and comfortable working in demanding environments, including confined spaces and at height, while delivering work to tight shutdown schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all welding/plating/Piping activities during the shutdown period
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards including BS EN ISO 9606, ASME, and API codes
  • Manage and mentor a team of coded welders across multiple disciplines (TIG, MIG, MMA, pipe welding)
  • Conduct pre‑work briefings and toolbox talks with welding crews
  • Review and approve welding procedures (WPS) and ensure adherence to project specifications
  • Coordinate with NDT personnel for inspection scheduling and quality control
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities, materials, and consumables
  • Liaise with project management, safety teams, and client representatives
  • Ensure all work is completed to agreed timescales and quality standards
  • Implement and maintain highest safety standards

About You

You are an experienced Supervisor with a strong background in industrial shutdowns, power generation, energy, petrochemical, or heavy process environments. You have proven experience and can consistently produce work to the highest quality standards under demanding outage schedules.

Essential Requirements

  • Current welding/plating/piping qualifications (coded welder certification preferred)
  • IWE (International Welding Engineer) or equivalent qualification
  • Strong knowledge of welding procedures for carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials
  • Experience with pressure vessel and piping systems
  • Excellent understanding of UK health and safety regulations
  • CCNSG Safety Passport or equivalent
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced shutdown environment
  • Ability to work at heights and work in confined spaces
