Wood is recruiting a Process Superintendent for SAGE St Fergus gas terminal on a permanent basis. This role is working Monday-Friday (4.5 day week) onsite at St Fergus. You will participate in an on call rota 1 in 5 weeks. Applicants must be based within a daily commutable distance to site. Accommodation is not provided.
Responsibilities
- To ensure SAGE pipeline and Gas Plant are operated and maintained in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Government and Company Regulations and that contractual requirements are met.
- To provide overall management of the Gas Plant and pipeline system co-ordinating with offshore and product allocations organisations.
- To manage the Gas Plant emergency organisation in the event of an emergency.
Critical Responsibilities
- Ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness, including staff readiness and the maintenance of robust emergency procedures.
- Adhere to all applicable Wood and client systems, standards, and procedures, while actively contributing to their continuous review and improvement.
- The Process Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the SAGE pipeline and Gas Plant are operated and maintained in a safe, secure, and efficient manner, while optimising operational performance in full compliance with applicable government regulations, company standards, and site-specific procedures. All activities must adhere to relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Exercising strict control over pipeline and Gas Plant operating costs to meet budgetary requirements, including acting as Budget Responsible Owner (BRO) for operations, while ensuring that all product specifications are consistently achieved. This involves close coordination with internal teams and gas allocation coordinators.
- Directing departmental compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental obligations through adherence to SAGE Gas Plant policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Managing emergency situations in accordance with Company Emergency Response Procedures, including active participation in emergency response training and fulfilling duty manager responsibilities on a rotational basis.
- Acting as deputy for the SAGE Plant Manager when required.
- Providing strong safety leadership by championing Wood’s lifesaving rules and safety shield principles.
- Overseeing the review and management of Permit-to-Work systems and Safe Systems of Work, including work pack validation during daily coordination meetings.
- Ensuring departmental compliance with all training and competency requirements, while fostering staff development opportunities aligned with organizational needs and individual capabilities.
- Representing the organization at meetings with clients, joint venture partners, shippers, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders and the local community.
- Maintaining effective liaison with the Wood Hub Engineering Department in Aberdeen and the pipelines team in Glasgow, providing input into engineering modifications, construction activities, and pipeline-related scopes, including work pack review and approval. Periodic visits to Aberdeen offices are required to manage these interfaces.
- Supporting and delivering Management of Change processes, including administrative, organizational, and technical aspects at the SAGE facility.
- Act as Laboratory Manager on behalf of Wood. Ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Additional Relevant Information
- This position may, in the future, encompass responsibilities related to project management for upcoming construction, engineering, or site-based activities.
- The role is subject to statutory CPNI security clearance checks, given its critical nature.
- The successful candidate should ideally reside within a 30-mile radius of the SAGE Gas Plant to ensure availability for participation in the emergency response rota.
- The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, with direct line management and accountability for the rostered Operations shift teams.
Qualifications
- Tertiary Engineering qualification (or equivalent), preferably in Process or Chemicals.
- Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in petrochemical company.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience encompassing multi-disciplinary teams.

- Government and Company regulations encompassing pipeline and gas plants.
- Industry and Company Health and Safety regulations.
- Accounting and reporting procedures and the impact of budgetary control.
- Effective control and management of emergencies.

- Control of Work systems, related manuals and procedures.
- Understanding of Major Accident Hazards as identified in the COMAH report.
