Technical Manager in London

Wood is seeking practical, engaged engineers, architects and surveyors to join our busy Built Environment team in hands-on technical management roles. We have a growing order book of both public and private funded projects from an established and growing client base and need committed and experienced professionals to help deliver it. With extensive experience and a recognised professional qualification (eg CEng, CIOB), you will be the lynchpin between understanding our clients’ needs and delivering our technical solution.

You will lead project teams of in-house and supply chain specialists and be responsible for all aspects of delivery including managing scope, risks, schedule, health and safety, and financial performance and may also act in a technical assurance role. We are regularly involved from project inception through to development, from site finding, due diligence and site appraisal, design and assessment, consenting and delivery for our diverse portfolio of national and local government, utilities owners/operators and house builder clients.

Working with a team of designers, engineers, planners and environmental experts you will have a varied workload which would include taking ownership of client relationships, interrogating requirements, applying technical standards and assurance, report writing, presenting and growing the team. This is a hands-on role, you will be expected to undertake many elements of the work yourself, as well as managing others’ contributions. We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have experience in education, defence or residential development. This role can be based in any of our UK office locations (Leamington Spa, Reading, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle upon Tyne, Knutsford, Shrewsbury or Leeds).

• Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with clients
• Coordinating input from multiple technical disciplines
• Identifying opportunities to add value to client projects and programmes
• Management of project budgets and schedules
• Ensuring work is delivered in accordance with Wood policies and procedures: health and safety, security, environment and quality
• Coaching junior members of the team
• Supporting or leading preparation of bids for new work

Skills / Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in the built environment sector at a senior level
• Management of multidisciplinary teams
• Analytical and communication skills: Interpreting factual information, drawing conclusions and articulating the conclusions concisely
• Strong interest in understanding the wider business and industry context

Desirable:

• Any of the following skills: NEC PM or supervisor accreditation
• Land development appraisals
• CAD, REVIT, Architectural sketching
• Primavera P6
• Valid UK security vetting (SC or DV)

Qualifications

• Engineering, surveying or architecture degree
• Membership of relevant professional body
