Wood is seeking to expand and develop its existing successful Transport and Highways team within its Built Environment business. We are looking for a dynamic team player to lead transport planning and modelling projects and to support the development of the business and the team. Our workload is extremely varied covering a broad range of projects including large mixed-use developments, transport infrastructure schemes, wind farms, Electric Vehicles (EV) and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
Key private and public sector clients include organisations such as The Crown Estate, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Homes England, National Grid, Department for Education, and a wide range of local planning and highway authorities and private developers. The workload of the team is diverse, at international, national, regional and local levels, including:
- Preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Local Plans, Transport Strategies, Traffic Management Plans and Access Studies for a wide range of development and regeneration projects from small residential sites and onshore wind farms to large scale mixed use strategic development sites and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs)
- Highway design, including public realm schemes, bus priority, sustainable transport, junction and road designs, cycle infrastructure and input to masterplanning of development sites
- Transport modelling including junction models and developing strategic multi-modal, traffic and micro-simulation models
- Real-time traffic management by PTV Optima
- Contribution to Environmental Statements
Your role will involve the development of highway and transport design projects within the Transport & Highways team, often as part of large multi-disciplinary project teams. You will have the opportunity to be part of the continued growth of the team, identifying resource requirements and the pursuit of business opportunities with both existing and new clients. Your role will also be to support senior staff members in bid preparation and to develop and mentor junior staff. Your key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and/or overseeing technical reports and design drawings and liaison with the client
- Involvement in the management of internal and external client relationships
- Collaborative working with team members and other business disciplines
- Technical guidance of less experienced staff, and supporting their career development
- Leading or supporting the preparation of bids and fee proposals within the Transport & Highways team and as part of multi-disciplinary bid teams
- Ensuring technical content and deliverables are in line with project briefs and Wood’s Quality Management System
Qualifications: In order to effectively carry out the key responsibilities the following minimum requirements will need to be demonstrated by candidates:
- HND or degree in Civil Engineering/other relevant degree or equivalent work experience
- Extensive experience of AutoCAD, AutoTrack, KeySign, KeyLine, Microsoft applications
- Technical knowledge and experience in the assessment and design of highways/transport engineering projects
- Experienced in the application of design standards and current good practice in scheme design and development. This includes but is not limited to; DMRB, TSRGD, LCDS, MfS2, Traffic Signs Manual, LTN 1/20
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and its application in scheme delivery
- Experience of transport planning, including Transport Assessments, and of contributing to multi-disciplinary projects
- Management of small to medium-sized projects
- Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE or CIHT or TPS an advantage
- Experience of local junction modelling software packages (LinSig, Junctions9)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
