Overview / Responsibilities
The HSSE&S Lead is responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on matters pertaining to Health & Safety, Security, Environment & Sustainability, with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and Client requirements, thereby reducing risks to the business.
The HSSE&S Lead will report to the UK HSSE&S Manager for the Projects Business Unit and have direct responsibility for the members of the Power Solutions Ltd HSSE&S team.
Whilst the role is nominally based at one of the Company’s facilities in Darlington, the HSSE&S Lead is expected to undertake visits to the business’ facilities and worksites around the UK to, for example, provide support, carry out assurance activities and incident investigations, provide sickness / holiday cover, etc.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice, guidance and support on HSSE&S matters to the business’ Senior Leadership Team, Project Managers and HSSE&S Advisors.
- In conjunction with the UK HSSE&S Manager, roll out Company HSSE&S objectives and develop specific HSSE&S objectives for the business, as necessary.
- Roll out Company HSSE&S campaigns and initiatives and develop and roll out business-specific campaigns and initiatives.
- Monitor industry best practice to assist in the development of the above.
- Lead high potential (Level 2) incident investigations and provide support and / or review lower potential (Level 1) incident investigations.
- Establish and ensure an acceptable quality of incident investigations, including the generating of meaningful lessons learned, recorded as SMART corrective / preventative actions.
- Undertake management support visits to Power Solutions facilities and worksites and providing constructive reviews of the status.
- Develop and ensure the implementation of an annual, risk-based, assurance schedule.
- Provide weekly reports to the business leadership and UK HSSE&S Manager.
- Undertake leading and lagging indicator analysis for the business and provide business-wide alerts to advise the business leadership of trends which cause concern
- Provide an HSSE&S focal point for clients
- Provide training and mentorship for new recruits into the HSSE&S team, as appropriate
- Provide cross-Business Unit support as required
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Level 4 Certificate in Health & Safety (minimum) or Level 6 Diploma in Health & Safety or higher (desirable)
- OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 Internal Auditor (desirable)
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- Lead / Senior HSSE&S Advisor with project and corporate experience in transmission and distribution, oil and gas or other related industry
- Excellent working knowledge of UK legislation
- Ability to develop and maintain management systems
- Ability to undertake investigations and establish causal factors and root causes and then develop suitably detailed investigation reports including corrective/preventative actions
- Ability to develop training and campaign materials
- High level of communication skills, (both written and spoken), and ability to use them effectively across all aspects of the business, (e. g., with the workforce, business management, HSSE&S management and client)
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Competent MS Office suite user
