It is an exciting time within Wood Commissioning Services and we are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Lead Commissioning Engineers to support a range of onshore and offshore projects across the UK, based in Aberdeen at Sir Ian Wood House. This contract opportunity will play a key role in delivering critical commissioning phases on major projects. Engagement will be on a Limited Company contractor basis, operating outside IR35.

Commissioning is the most pivotal moment in the entire asset life cycle. Whether you are starting a new facility or restarting after a maintenance turnaround, commissioning is the glue that pulls the project work groups together, viewing the project from a systems perspective that brings the asset to life. We work with our partners to guarantee facility integrity, start‑up and handover to commercial operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the safe completion of the project pre‑commissioning / commissioning work‑scope
- Support the project Commissioning Team
- Provide commissioning input to the project plans and schedules
- Develop project commissioning strategy documents
- Review / approve and supervise the design and installation of minor temporary systems / supplies
- Review and approve commissioning procedures – ensure compliance with project standards, specifications and procedures
- Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to all applicable site / project safety procedures and practices
- Actively participate in all company and project safety initiatives
- Liaise with the engineering office to ensure that the fabrication drawings are produced in line with commissioning requirements
- Audit site / project activities on a regular basis to ensure compliance with project safety, environmental and quality requirements
- Monitor and report commissioning progress on a regular basis
- Approve all system / sub‑system mechanical completion, pre‑commissioning and commissioning sign‑off certificates / milestones
- Ensure a safe Permit to Work and isolation system is in place and adhered to
- Manage / attend project HAZID's / Risk Assessments
- Provide input into audit reviews
- Provide input into budget management and cost control
- Provide input into planning process as requested
- Provide input into safety reviews / walk‑rounds
Qualifications
- HNC / HND (or equivalent) in a suitable Engineering subject
- Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering related background an advantage
- BOSIET / MIST / OGUK Medical
- IT Literate (Excel / Word / PowerPoint etc)
- Company mandatory training (Induction, risk awareness etc)
- Task Risk Management Trained Person
- Conversant with Project Management Systems
- PTW Awareness
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Demonstrable experience in similar role, with a proven background of delivery
- Strong multi‑discipline experience in O&G system commissioning, start‑up and operations
- Recognised O&G process commissioning background
- Experienced in O&G systems commissioning and testing
- Familiar with O&G process equipment, start‑up and operation
- Experienced in planning and coordinating system commissioning activities
- Experienced in running multi‑discipline HAZOP's / Risk assessment reviews
- Experienced in the management of system commissioning personnel / team
- Extensive knowledge of O&G related HSEQ safe working practices / procedures
- Experienced in the development and coaching of team members
- Ability to interface and interact with Client Representatives at all levels
- Offshore experience in similar role
- Conversant with HR practices / processes
- Conversant with TRM / Audit process
- Ability to demonstrate effective and efficient management of processes and personnel
- Ability to demonstrate high level understanding of HSE safe working practices and procedures and their implementation
- Ability to manage / maintain budget / schedule requirements
- Fully conversant with the completions and commissioning process
- Ability to interpret project procedures, standards, specifications and drawings including PFD's / P&ID's / SLD's / C&E's etc
- Ability to produce system commissioning strategy documents and review / approve commissioning procedures
- Able to develop / review and approve design of temporary minor utility systems and supplies
- IT literate in all major software packages (Word / Excel / PowerPoint etc)
- Able to implement, manage and audit Permit to Work procedure and Isolation procedures
- Familiar with national / international O&G industry legislation, standards and specifications
- Conversant with completions management software and its functionality
- Good level of understanding of construction / commissioning processes
