Landfill Consultant

We are involved in many key projects of regional and national significance, which we deliver alongside our core UK and global framework projects.

This role would ideally be based in our Leamington Spa or Shrewsbury offices but with travel across the UK and overseas for specific projects or longer-term assignments. Our other UK offices could also be considered for the right candidate. Flexible working options are available including hybrid (mixed office and remote) working.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of technical reports including environmental monitoring reports, audit reports and pollution inventory reports
• Technical input to landfill gas and leachate management plans as well as hydrogeological risk assessments
• Preparation of / technical input to environmental permit applications, variation applications, closure reports and surrender applications
• Planning and delivery of site works including client liaison, preparation of project HSSE plans and method statements, staff resourcing and sub-contractor management
• Some field work will be required including site inspections and audits of waste management sites as well as environmental sampling and monitoring. This may involve some overnight stays in the UK and overseas
• Data review and analysis
• Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with procedures and processes and to the highest quality and safety, health and environmental standards

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science, geology, engineering, chemistry or similar)
• A higher degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. contaminated land, engineering geology, environmental science, hydrogeology or similar), is desirable

Experience

• Experience of landfill site assessment/investigation, auditing and environmental monitoring
• Understanding the environmental permitting regime in the UK with regard to landfill and other waste management installations and operations
• Experience in environmental permit applications, variation applications, closure reports and surrender applications for landfill and other waste management installations and operations
• Understanding of the land contamination regime within the UK with regard to current and future use of a site, development planning, environmental permitting and due diligence
• Report writing including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner
• Construction quality assurance (CQA) supervision of landfill engineering works is desirable
• Data handling, including experience in the use of GIS/QGIS, Civil 3D or CAD is desirable
• Experience of closed landfill management is desirable
• Experience in the use of GasSim for landfill gas modelling and pollution inventory reporting is desirable
• Experience of landfill gas and leachate extraction and treatment systems, including leachate treatment plants, landfill gas utilisation plants and flaring is desirable

Skills / Attributes

• Full UK driving licence
• Be willing to travel and spend periods of time away on site based projects across the UK and overseas for specific projects or longer-term assignments
• Communicate effectively, listen and engage, including communicating technical information
• Ability to innovate and develop in your technical area and to continually seek to improve performance in all aspects of your role
• On site leadership of environmental monitoring and other similar field works
• Work collaboratively within a team and provide mentoring to develop colleagues
