Wood is currently recruiting for a Control & Instrument Designer with Fire & Gas experience to support high-profile projects within the UK. The Instrument Designer will join the Systems Integration team within our Digital Consulting business. Hybrid working is required with Tuesday and Wednesday based in Aberdeen, Glasgow or Staines. Occasional travel to the client site is expected. This position will be for a minimum 4-month duration. Applicants must be able to pass the BPSS check.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with client specifications and engineering standards
- Works with Senior EC&I Engineers / PEMs to produce conceptual designs, design schemes, detail drawings and associated documentation
- Maintain compliance with Engineering Standards and applicable legislation
- Participate in Design Reviews to ensure designs are captured and drawings updated
- Ensure confidentiality and security of data and information from clients
- Collaborate with Senior EC&I Engineers to ensure effective project delivery on time
- Maintain an overview of project progress and provide direction as needed
- Read and understand P&ID’s, Loop drawings, ISOs, wiring and hook-up diagrams
- Proficient in CAD using AutoCAD and Document Management Systems
- Knowledge of ISA symbols, Piping and Loop drawings, ISOs
- Identify instruments, mechanical equipment and piping components in the field
- Apply client Engineering Standards in day-to-day technical support
- Interpret engineering mark-ups and update drawings accordingly
- Field as-built P&IDs, Loop drawings, ISOs and wiring diagrams for project closures
- Able to perform Site Visits as required

Expected
- Educated to HNC / HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline or chartered engineering & member of an appropriate institute
- Industrial experience in P&ID, Loop drawings, ISOs drafting
- Proficiency in AutoDesk AutoCAD and MS products (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience of localised guaranteed non-interruptible supplies
- Understanding of Fibre Optic systems
- Knowledge of CIMAGE & 4G
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of Plant Operations and maintenance
- Understanding of Fire & Gas design
- Knowledge of Instrument Earthing requirements
Desirable
- Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI)
