Environmental Manager

Wood is currently recruiting for an Environmental Manager with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry.

The Environmental Manager is responsible for delivering Wood’s Operated Assets Service Line environmental strategy and HSSE policy obligations. They shall also ensure robust governance in the management of environmental risk and opportunities across Wood’s Duty Holder operations, ensuring that operations maintain environmental licence to operate and the environmental credentials to support clients in all jurisdictions in which they operate.

The Environmental Manager is responsible for the implementation of Wood’s Environmental Standards across the EMEA Operated Assets Service Line and business, collaborating with operations to achieve the highest standards of environmental stewardship, building an exemplary environmental reputation for Wood in the eyes of key stakeholders. The post holder will be a passionate advocate of excellence in operational and strategic environmental management, with significant experience in an operational environmental position including practical experience and an ability to influence at all levels. The person will have an in-depth knowledge of environmental compliance, emissions trading schemes (ETS) and Decarbonisation in highly regulated Duty Holder environments and have exposure and experience within circular economy, biodiversity, social aspect of sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Delivering Wood’s Operated Assets Service Line environmental strategy and approach to environmental management including the implementation of Wood’s environmental standards across the EMEA business.
• Ensuring that there is a plan in place so that environmental aspects are appropriately managed, that Wood’s HSSE policy obligations are enacted and that key environmental aspects and impacts material to the organisation are identified on the environmental risk register.
• Identifying, understanding, and communicating the legal, industrial, and contractual environmental obligations placed on Wood to key stakeholders.
• In collaboration with the Skills Pool Team, developing training and learning experiences to facilitate greater environmental awareness and enable more effective environmental management across the business.
• Working with assurance teams to make sure that environmental management aspects and impacts are subject to appropriate assurance processes and due diligence.
• Providing the business with technical environmental services on a broad range of environmental management issues e.g., contaminated land, investigations, client engagement, decarbonisation, sustainability etc.
• Managing resources to ensure effective environmental risk mitigation and effective support to Wood Operated Assets Service Line.
• Providing technical environmental advice and support to Management to ensure that environmental obligations are effectively supported.
• Managing the effective investigation of environmental incidents and subsequent monitoring to ensure any trends are identified and mitigated effectively.
• Liaising with the EMEA HSSE&S Vice President and legal teams to manage environmental regulatory issues and/or investigations.
• Communicating environmental key performance indicators, trends, issues, alerts etc. to Wood’s EMEA HSSE&S Vice President, General Management and Support Teams.
• Supporting the Duty Holder business to maintain environmental licences, certifications, and memberships.

Qualifications:

• First and /or higher degree in Environmental related discipline or relevant experience
• Charted status
• Trained and competent Internal Auditor
• Root Cause Analysis – Accident/incident Investigator, e.g., Helix/Taproot
• Professional membership of environmental body
• Trained and competent External Auditor

• Authoring environmental management processes & procedures
• Excellent technical writing skills
• Investigation and incident management skills
• Environmental law and governance
• On-site practical knowledge and experience
• Environmental KPI monitoring and interpretation
• Interfacing with and influencing senior management

Desirable:

• Broad industrial and construction related exposure
• Exposure and experience within circular economy, biodiversity, social aspect of sustainability highly desirable
• Experience of managing a team
