Wood is recruiting a core Electrical Technician for Spirit Energy NUI platforms, offshore Morecambe.
Responsibilities
- The safe, efficient and effective operation of the installation (including satellites) electrical systems and equipment while acting as Responsible Person in accordance with legislation
- When assessed as competent, perform process and production operator duties and tasks as required and under the guidance, direction and control of the Wood Supervisor and / or main control room during planned and unplanned shutdowns and process start up
- Complete the duties of the Responsible Authorised Electrical Person when nominated and deemed competent by Authorising Engineer in accordance with Client Electrical Safety Rules
- Stop, start and synchronise the HV and LV generation systems and equipment as required
- Carry out switching on HV and LV distribution systems and drilling generators to support production, as required
- Apply and remove busbar main earth
- Alter electrical protection settings as required on HR and LV distribution systems
- Isolate / de-isolate electrical systems and equipment in accordance with electrical working precautions Company Operating procedures and standards including:
- LV small power distribution system
- LV battery / UPS system
- HV distribution system
- Safeguarding the reliability, availability and “fit for purpose” operational condition of electrical systems and equipment sufficient to meet the operational availability targets of the installation
- Keep up to date with electrical working legislation and regulations
- The safe and efficient performance of allocated production duties and tasks
- Assist specialist contractor personnel as necessary in the undertaking and execution of preventative and corrective maintenance activity and tasks on the Electrical equipment
- Re-prioritise preventative maintenance work as necessary to accommodate unforeseen corrective maintenance tasks to enable safety and production to be sustained and / or restored
- Cooperate with the Wood Supervisors to coordinate the activities of the Electrical Technicians
- Ensure work programmes and schedules are completed safely, efficiently, effectively and within planned timescales
- Ensure all jobs are accompanied by the necessary and accurately completed documentation
- Provide technical knowledge and experience in diagnosing and resolving maintenance and / or operational problems and / or identification of opportunities for improvement
- Act as competent person, when required, in witnessing contractor tests on electrical systems and equipment
- When assessed as competent, perform process and production operator duties and tasks as required and under the guidance, direction and control of the Wood Supervisor and / or main control room during planned and unplanned shutdowns and process start up
General Responsibilities of Employees

- Comply with company policies, Code of Business Conduct etc., local policies, standards and legislation
- Bring to the attention of Supervisors any hazards or potential hazards in all spheres of activity
- Report promptly all accidents, incidents and near misses to the Supervisor
- Ensure knowledge and understanding of HS&E responsibilities and actively participate in health and safety activities on board Douglas
- Ensure your personal certificates as per Company skills matrix are valid and safety critical competency is maintained and also compile and maintain personal profile to demonstrate competency in line with Company procedure
- In the event of an emergency, carry out such duties as identified in the emergency response procedure or station bill and participate in emergency response team training
- Train other personnel as directed; take on multi-tasking duties as and when competency proved in skills defined by Client and act flexibly to cover temporary projects and other roles as required
- Actively suggest improvements to installation processes
- Lead/attend Hazops/ Hazids/Work Place Risk Assessments/Tool Box Talks as and when required
- Participate in audits and inspections as directed by Line Manager or Client
- Ensure that any defects in working practices, machinery, tools, equipment, protective measures and protective clothing are immediately brought to the attention of management so that steps can be instigated to remedy the defect or take the equipment out of service until repaired or made safe
- Provide a detailed handover log to provide sufficient information to the oncoming shift team to continue safe and efficient operation.
