Wood has an exciting opportunity available for a dynamic individual to join us as a Civil/ Structural Designer on a permanent basis in our Darlington office. We are looking for an individual in their early stages of their career, ideally in either civil consultancy or steel fabrication detailing looking to further their career in civil/structural design working in exciting projects in the process, energy, green and circular economy involving green/blue hydrogen production and distribution, carbon capture and storage, plastic circular economy, as well as the traditional process and energy environment.
On a daily basis you will prepare Civil & Structural 2D drawings using Autocad for all areas including: Building structures, steel process structures, pipebridges, piling, foundations, drainage, roads, paving, culverts etc. You will provide support to the senior department members to develop your own personal skills in contract management and execution. Workscope includes regular site visits within the UK to carry out site surveys and support construction activities. Working with senior department engineers and designers you will gain experiences and guidance to develop your skills in all areas of civil/structural design. Training will be provided in the use of 3D modelling software to suit individual projects i.e. Aveva E3D/PDMS, Revit, Smartplant S3D, Laser scanning software and the use of model viewing tools.
Providing technical support and guidance you will also:
- Liaise with other disciplines in the preparation of models and support requirements
- Extract general arrangements from E3D/PDMS/S3D and produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Prepare and issue drawings in line with project schedule
- Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude towards safety, both in design and in the office environment
- Checking of drawings/models in accordance with Work Practices, standards, and client requirements
- Coordinates with other disciplines as and when required
- Maintain project familiarisation with the project Discipline Design Instruction
- Participates on Model Reviews as and when required and report changes to the Lead Designer/Lead Engineer
Qualifications:
- Recently qualified with preferably a HNC/HND in a civil/structural engineering or built environment qualification
- Experience in either a civil consultancy, steel fabrication detailing or highways and transportation
- A good understanding and experience of AUTOCAD is essential and experience of 3D Modelling packages is preferred but not essential.
- Full Driving license and car owner
