Wood is recruiting for a Control & Instrument (C&I) Engineer to join our System Integration (SI) team within our Digital Consulting business, to support across various high-profile projects in the UK.

There is a requirement for hybrid working with Tuesday and Wednesday being based out of any of the following locations – Aberdeen, Glasgow or Staines. Occasional travel to the client site is also expected as required. This position will be for a minimum 6 month duration. Applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role

Wood is looking for a motivated and experienced Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our engineering team. This role involves the design, development, and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for a high-profile client within SI. You will be responsible for ensuring systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards. We are seeking individuals with engineering experience within Automation and Controls projects who are driven to solve complex technical challenges for our clients. As an experienced Instrument Engineer, you will support the implementation of projects in line with company objectives including continuous improvement of margin, customer satisfaction, schedule, working capital and safety performance.

Responsibilities

  • Review and comment PFD / P&ID for any control / interlock / safety related representations
  • Prepare Instrument Index and Control System I/O List
  • Prepare material requisitions and data sheets for field instruments
  • Prepare technical bid evaluations of suppliers’ proposal for field instruments
  • Prepare the instrumentation requirement for package units; supporting package specialists for MR, technical clarification and bid evaluations, document review and approval; coordinating the interfaces between package unit control system and plant control systems
  • Review and approve vendor documents for incorporation into the design and co-ordination with other disciplines
  • Provide input to other disciplines, such as electrical consumption for electrical power supply design, heat dissipation for ACMV design, weight and dimension for civil / architecture design
  • Prepare instrument bill of quantity and subcontractor requisition for instrumentation installation work
  • Review and help prepare deliverables like wiring diagram, loop diagram, hook-up, cable specification etc.
  • Direct and/or participate in job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
  • Ensure that all comments are consistent and are included in the drawings according to the applicable procedure

  • Bachelor\\\’s degree or a master\\\’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation Engineering
  • Previous experience working in a project delivery environment
  • Knowledge with ISA Standards and other international standards for instrumentation and control
  • Knowledge of Field Instrumentation and familiar with PC based design software for sizing of instruments, preparation of requisition and procurement of instruments
  • Strong planning, organising and execution skills

Desirable

  • Professional Engineer or engineering chartership preferred
  • Hands on experience with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI)
