As a result of significant growth, Wood are seeking a Senior Cable System Design Engineer for their Power Solutions UK business. The role can be based at home or in one of our UK offices.

Purpose of the Position:

  • Lead our Growing HV Cable Engineering Team.
  • Assure delivery of drawings, documents, and other design deliverables in accordance with engineering procedures, guidance notes and training.
  • Development of team skills and knowledge in line with business needs.
  • Support development of systems and technologies to enhance our efficiency, quality, and innovation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Input into and development of execution strategy and deliver solutions to meet project objectives during tendering and then delivery.
  • Delivery of tasks against the specifications, processes, schedule and budget, ensuring control of quality, time, cost, and resources.
  • Identification and development of personal engineering competence and where appropriate the development of others in the team.
  • Support systematic learning and development of best practice with the broader cable delivery team.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Formal academic engineering qualification, Degree or equivalent.
  • Experienced in a T&D engineering environment and proven track record of scheme delivery.
  • Knowledge of EHV and HV cable and related engineering specifications and standards, BSI, IEC, ENA.
  • Knowledge of design and analysis for cable systems up to 400kV, including electrical, mechanical, calculation of ratings, earthing and safety considerations.
  • Knowledge of specifying cable systems, manufacturing process and supporting factory acceptance of the delivered solutions.
  • Knowledge of cable construction, installation and removal techniques and temporary works.
  • Knowledge of design and detailing of cable jointing arrangements.
  • Understanding of impacts on cable design and performance from installation, geochemical and civil engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of HSE and CDM regulations.
  • Ability to perform Risk Assessments and develop mitigation strategies.

Desirable:

  • Chartered (or working toward) status.
  • Contracting and Consulting experience.
  • UK underground cable specification knowledge from 11kV to 400kV.
  • Cable design experience covering both XLPE and fluid filled cables typical in the UK.
  • Testing, inspection, and quality control experience.
  • Chair and/or facilitate Risk Assessment and Hazid meetings.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing in English.
  • Full and clean driving license to allow travel to client, supplier and construction locations.
