Wood is seeking expressions of interest from Senior Technical Authors to join our Integrated Digital Operations Team based in Aberdeen, supporting a diverse portfolio of global projects.
This role is responsible for updating and enhancing existing documentation to meet client requirements, ensuring all deliverables are completed within agreed timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints. Experience in Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSSE) documentation is desirable.
Our clients are typically EPC operators in the oil and gas, renewables or petrochemical process industries. We are committed to providing them with best practice operations and maintenance documents to ensure safe and efficient plant start-up and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and define the work: Establish objectives, audience, scope, standards, legislation, style, methodology, resources, timescales, and agree these with the client or technical authority.
- Research and structure content: Gather and filter relevant information, organise it logically, define heading hierarchies, and develop synopses where required to ensure clarity and usability.
- Author and develop technical content: Produce consistent, compliant draft documents using templates, incorporating accurate diagrams and graphics, and liaising through review and approval stages.
- Manage document production and quality: Ensure independent quality control checks and coordinate final production deliverables (electronic and hard copy) with production teams.
- Maintain and assure document quality: Revise existing documents as required, ensure consistency of style and language, manage workload priorities, and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver to agreed standards, scope, and budget.
Qualifications:
- General Education to secondary level.
- Recognized qualification in Technical Authorship or appropriate discipline.
- Proven years of experience in Technical Authoring.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Visio, Project).
- Interpretation of the requirements of a client for a technical publication.
- Identification of the objectives of a technical publication.
- Plan projects to develop technical publications.
- Lead the development of technical publications.
- Obtaining, recording and storing information for use in a technical publication.
- Design the structure and style of a technical publication.
- Planning, producing and reviewing with other people the text for inclusion in a technical publication.
- Incorporation of multimedia components (graphics, photographs etc) in a technical publication.
- Writing and editing technical publications to improve their technical quality.

- Work experience related to the oil and gas industry (or similar) and associated technical documentation.
