Wood is looking for a HSE Improvement Lead to join our busy EMEA HSE team in Aberdeen, Scotland on a full time, permanent contract. Hybrid working is offered for this role – 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Closing date for applications is 12th December 2025 at 5pm GMT.

The Role

Reporting to the VP of HSEQ, the HSE Improvements Lead will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture and ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, security & environment. Working closely across the business, you'll provide expert guidance, ensure compliance, and support continuous improvement. You'll have the autonomy to shape initiatives, engage teams, and influence meaningful change across a dynamic environment. This role will focus on enhancing our lessons learned process, risk management, and assurance activities, ensuring alignment and synergy across regions. The role will involve collaborating with HSE Leads/Managers, providing guidance and support, and ensuring project compliance with HSSE regulations and company policies. The position will serve as a key point of contact for HSSE related matters and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of HSSE excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a value focused HSSE culture that delivers positive commitment to, and engages all employees in, continuous performance improvement.
  • Demonstrate HSSE leadership and promote Wood values.
  • Partner with leaders and teams to integrate best practice into daily operations and strategic plans.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, motivating employees to not only strive to meet compliance standards, but also to exceed them for operating efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal compliance, risk management frameworks, guidance, and internal standards.
  • Support with coaching, training facilitation to build improvement capability at all levels.
  • Support the implementing, maintaining and improving the management systems to meet customer & regulatory compliance, including ISO14001 & 45001 certification.
  • Work closely with HSE Managers to identify trends, recurring issues, root causes and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct regular HSEQ inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and compliance within regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support and guidance in the implementation of the crisis and emergency response process.
  • Provide support to senior Managers in incident and accident investigations through the use of an appropriate Investigation process (e.g. ICAM or Taproot).
  • Maintenance of HSEQ risk and compliance registers.
  • Act as the central liaison between Regional teams.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration to integrate HSE best practices across regions.
  • Strengthen and streamline the lessons learned process to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Capture and disseminate key insights and recommendations from incidents and near-misses.
  • Support the implementation of risk management strategies.
  • Conduct regular HSSE risk reviews and ensure proactive mitigation measures.
  • Oversee assurance activities to ensure compliance with HSE standards and regulations.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to verify the effectiveness of HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure alignment of HSE initiatives with corporate goals and regional requirements.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with senior management and relevant stakeholders to implement global and regional HSSE strategies, initiatives, goals and objectives.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging trends in HSSE management.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, optimise resource allocation, and implement best practices.
  • Analyse HSSE data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address them.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in HSE / Quality or related discipline.
  • HSEQ experience within the Oil & Gas or heavy industry.
  • Lead Auditor qualification by recognised industry body.
  • Training and assessment.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and assurance skills.
  • Formal Incident investigator training by a recognised industry body.
  • In-depth knowledge of HSEQ regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence & engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex situations & recommend practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in a similar leadership role, demonstrating a track record of success in HSSE Improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively inspire and motivate teams, providing guidance and support in achieving HSSE objectives.
  • Investigation experience, TAPROOT or ICAM.
  • Extensive auditing experience.
