Wood Street Vets has been part of the local community for more than 100 years, and we’re now looking for an experienced, confident Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next meaningful step in their career. If you’re a proactive clinician who enjoys managing complex cases, working to a high standard, and guiding others, our Barnet Hospital could be the perfect next chapter.
A Stunning Setting with Modern Facilities
Based in a beautifully converted Georgian building, our Barnet Hospital offers an impressive blend of historic character and modern equipment. With a spacious reception area, separate cat and dog waiting rooms, three consult rooms, three theatres, a large prep area and a fully equipped IDEXX lab, our facilities allow you to work efficiently and deliver exceptional care.
We also have a dedicated dental suite with dental X-ray, a digital X-ray room, scan room, isolation ward, separate dog and cat wards, quiet office spaces for case work‑ups, and a well‑stocked staff area.
Your time will be split across both our Hospital which is our main branch and our practice at Rosemary Avenue, though clinicians who prefer to remain in a practice setting can be accommodated.
Varied Days and a Diverse Patient Base
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety and complexity. You’ll manage a diverse caseload of cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries and the occasional chicken, along with wildlife brought in by the community.
Surgical procedures range from routine operations to laparoscopic work, orthopaedics, thoracic surgery, BOAS, dentistry and ECC
Our extensive in‑house capabilities including radiography, dental X‑ray, ultrasound, rigid and flexible endoscopy, laparoscopy, electro and radio surgery, stapling, orthopaedic kits, ventilators and advanced monitoring - mean you’ll have everything you need to keep cases in‑house where appropriate.
You’ll have full encouragement and support to work up cases thoroughly, take the lead on your areas of passion, and continue advancing your skills.
A Skilled RVN Team and a Supportive Hospital Structure
In our busy hospital environment, you’ll work alongside highly capable RVNs, many with certificates, who run their own clinics, support surgeries, and help ensure smooth workflow throughout the day. This allows you to focus your time where your expertise is most needed.
A Full‑Time Role Designed for Experienced Vets
We are seeking full‑time applications only. The role is 42 hours across four days, with 1 in 3 Saturdays (8‑6 or 8:30‑2:30 on a rota), some of which include sole charge.
As a Vets Now host practice, there is no OOH or on‑call, allowing you to enjoy a healthy work‑life balance without compromising on clinical exposure.
A Well‑Resourced Group with Exceptional Clinical Depth
Across our five sites in Radlett, Mill Hill, Cockfosters, Enfield and Barnet you’ll join a strong team of 14 Vets and 18 RVNs supported by a dedicated client care team. Among our clinicians are certificate holders in internal medicine, surgery and cardiology.
If you’re working towards or interested in starting a certificate, we provide full support. You’ll also have the opportunity to mentor newer graduates if you enjoy guiding the next generation of vets.
A Team That Values Community and Connection
We’re a friendly and engaged team who love being involved in the community, supporting everything from local dog shows to the RSPCA. We value collaboration, open communication, and a supportive culture where experienced vets can truly thrive.
A Fantastic Location with Excellent Transport Links
Our Barnet hospital is set in a vibrant area with plenty of cafés, shops and green spaces nearby, perfect for enjoying downtime between shifts. Best of all, we’re just a five‑minute walk from the nearest tube station, making commuting quick and stress‑free.
