Wood is recruiting for a Lead Offshore Pipeline Engineer to join the team focusing on subsea projects within our Consulting Division. This role will be based in our Staines office with some hybrid working available.
The Role
As a Lead Subsea Pipeline Engineer, your primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the design, installation, and maintenance of subsea pipelines in offshore oil and gas projects. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of hydrocarbons from the production wells to onshore or offshore processing facilities. Your technical expertise, leadership skills, and project management abilities will be essential in delivering successful pipeline projects.
Responsibilities
- Pipeline Design: Lead the design and engineering activities related to subsea pipeline systems, specifically the complex FEA analysis to determine pipeline buckling and walking behaviours and how these can be mitigated through the design process.
- Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and guidance to multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and offshore operations personnel to address technical challenges and optimize pipeline design and installation strategies.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential risks and hazards associated with subsea pipeline activities. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation measures to ensure safe operations and environmental protection.
- Quality Assurance and Control: Establish quality control procedures and standards for subsea pipeline engineering deliverables. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Communicate project progress, key milestones, and technical challenges effectively.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to subsea pipeline engineering. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and project outcomes.
Qualifications Skills / Qualifications
Expected: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Significant experience in subsea pipeline engineering, including design, installation, and maintenance. In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes such as API, DNV, and ASME related to subsea pipeline systems. Proficiency in pipeline design software and engineering tools such as Abaqus and Ansys. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve technical issues effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and clients. Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental stewardship in subsea pipeline operations. Chartered engineer status preferred.
