Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior / Principal Electrical Power System Engineer (contract) to work in our Reading office. The role will be on a full-time basis working on various different energy related projects.

The Role

  • As a Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for running power system simulations of complex systems, taking ownership of power system models and studies.
  • You shall be able to deliver high quality engineering solutions for the assigned project.
  • Working within the Project Electrical team, you will use your strong technical and communication skills to support Power System design and configuration together with a team of Technical Authorities and support functions to deliver best-in-class electrical assets.
  • Responsible for providing technical input into the major equipment sizing and production of Power Generation & Distribution Engineering drawings/documents (equipment lists, key line diagrams, load schedules, cable schedules) and checking against design specifications while meeting clients' and international standards.
  • Advanced experience using Power System modelling ETAP Software, running load flows, short-circuit, transient stability, static/dynamic motor starting, harmonic analysis, arc-flash, and protection coordination studies, and issuing the corresponding power system study reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review/understand the project SoW and perform activities as per schedule.
  • Utilize ETAP for power system modelling.
  • Run simulations of complex electrical power systems on ETAP Software.
  • Ensure accuracy and reliability of simulation results.
  • Provide technical leadership and take ownership of ETAP based power system models and studies.
  • Maintain and update simulation models as required.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering solutions for assigned projects.
  • Ensure solutions meet project specifications and standards.
  • Conduct load flow analysis.
  • Perform short-circuit studies.
  • Execute transient stability analysis.
  • Carry out static and dynamic motor starting studies.
  • Conduct harmonic analysis.
  • Perform arc-flash studies.
  • Execute protection coordination studies.
  • Issue comprehensive power system study reports.
  • Ensure reports are clear, accurate, and meet project requirements.
  • Provide Protection Engineering solutions for assigned project.
  • Recognize and communicate opportunities on Electrical design process based on Power System studies outcome.
  • Identify Scope changes and report to Lead and concerned Project Engineer.
  • Identify any concerns during Electrical design process and report to Lead Electrical Engineer.
  • Ensure Power System Study deliverables are produced to meet the acceptable Quality Level.
  • Follow Project Schedule and control the Project Cost.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as contractors, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry experts, to ensure effective communication, alignment, and successful project outcomes for power system studies scope.
  • Perform work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult co-ordination requirements.
  • Understand Company's Business Management System (Comprising Business/Quality Procedures, Guidelines, Policies etc) and follow accordingly.
  • Understand and Follow Company's and Client's HSE policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

What makes you remarkable?

  • Expected: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with grid connections/power systems at High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to Power System Simulation and Studies.
  • Extensive experience working in a multi-disciplinary Engineering office in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Technical expertise in electricity transmission/distribution.
  • Good experience with O&G facilities design is mandatory.
  • Able to prioritise workload to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Positive working attitude, able to demonstrate self-motivation and proactive approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexible approach to design solutions.
  • Decision making skills.
  • Desirable: Formal training of advanced ETAP Power System Modelling and Analysis would be an advantage.
