Wood is recruiting for a Hardware Engineer to join our System Integration (SI) team within our Digital Consulting business, focusing on discrete automation projects.

This is a hybrid role that can be based at any of the following UK offices: Aberdeen, Staines, Reading, Glasgow or Northampton with the expectation of travel as required.

Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.

The Role

The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the initial design and selection of components through to supervising and supporting the actual build. You will join a team of multi-discipline experts, supporting exciting projects across high-profile clients within Wood\’s Digital Consulting business.

As a Hardware Engineer, you will have the expert knowledge to assist in the implementation of a variety of projects, specialising in the hardware design of the automation controls.

Responsibilities

The key objectives for this role are:

1. Responsible for identifying/defining the Automation hardware requirements and solutions for the client.
2. Implements the defined hardware Automation solutions.
3. Supports the Lead Engineer in accomplishing project objectives.
4. Applies integration concepts to a wide variety of systems and across multiple vendor platforms.
5. Engineers\’ technical aspects of automation project design and/or implementation for assigned activities.
6. Implements the hardware design activities for assigned activities.
7. Prepares engineering studies, design drawings and material and equipment specifications.
8. Resolves specialty related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes, and standards.

Expected:

1. Prior experience and competency in Automation Engineering.
2. Experience in creating hardware documents/drawings, in design software e.g., Eplan, Autocad, Promis-e.
3. Experienced in writing hardware specification documents.
4. Detailed experience with multiple system implementation project platforms.
5. Experience of the hardware specification and design of PLC systems and design of hardwired Safety Systems.
6. Experience in creating hardware installation documents.
7. Knowledge of modern automation and control applications, tools, methodologies, or equal training/experience.
8. Good working knowledge of current industry-specific technology and safety requirements.
9. Inquisitive, well organised and have a keen eye for detail.

Desired:

1. Bachelor\’s degree or a master\’s degree in an engineering discipline.
2. Brownfield upgrades/replacement automation and control projects experience.
3. Prior on-site experience is advantageous.
