The Role

We have had great success across our engineering offering within our Digital Consulting business. As a result, we are now looking for expressions of interest so we can plan for the future growth of our team.

The Senior Piping Engineer will assist Wood with a wide variety of engineering scopes including assessing and reviewing the requirements on site for our clients. You will have the chance to conduct site surveys as well as doing desk engineering.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced piping engineer who enjoys variety including working with the clients to provide mechanical solutions and assessing engineering scopes to ensure they are fit for the intended purpose.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your engineering career further gaining exposure to multiple types of engineering challenges whilst also having the opportunity to support with the development of the next generation of mechanical engineers.

Typical responsibilities:

  1. Executing assigned scopes of work.
  2. Providing discipline expertise to the business.
  3. Supporting task delegation to team.
  4. Uses technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables including complex problems. Completes almost any engineering tasks with minimal guidance and direction. May serve as the primary discipline engineer on projects with small to medium complexity.
  5. Performs engineering assignments, usually representing a significant portion of a larger project. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and makes design recommendations.
  6. Requires mature professional knowledge in planning and conducting assignments having scope for coordination of difficult tasks.
  7. Applies specific area(s) of expertise in own discipline area.

Responsibilities for Internal Candidates:

  1. Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
  2. Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  3. Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
  4. Evaluates problems, organizes investigations and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
  5. Checks Engineering calculations as well as checks all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; Provides guidance to less senior Technical Professionals.
  6. Adheres to and complies with relevant discipline specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement.
  7. Participates in audits and incident investigations as required.
  8. Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects.
  9. Participates in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops as required.
  10. Organizes and actively participates in design reviews.
  11. Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options.
  12. As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations.
  13. Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project.
  14. Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches.
  15. Consistently called on to use creativity and professional judgment to formulate results based on engineering standards, experience and constructive thinking.
  16. Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems.
  17. Anticipates potential problems and takes the initiative to solve complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise.
  18. Exercises mature professional judgment in identifying the implications of experimental results.
  19. Understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals.
  20. Provides technical input and support to proposals as required.
  21. Provides advice and guidance in area of specialization to others.
  22. Assists in tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals.
  23. Discusses with other senior engineers to agree priorities and implications on work of others.
  24. Reviews work schedules and makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
  25. Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources and staff required to meet goals.
  26. Coordinates the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to small projects.
  27. Participates in developing deadlines, projects and work to be done.
  28. Provides appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical/design safety requirements.

Expected:

  1. ISCED Level 6 Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 Masters (preferred) Degree in engineering discipline, alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence.
  2. Chartership or relevant professional engineer status accredited by a national or industry engineering institution preferred.
  3. Requires mature professional knowledge and extensive progressive experience in general engineering.
  4. Extensive experience progressively more responsible pertinent experience; developing his/her area, and knowledgeable about impacts on other areas.
