Wood is currently recruiting for a Construction Engineer - Rotating Mechanical (contract). The role will be working at the Redcar site office on an energy transition project.

As a Construction Engineer you will be responsible for overseeing the installation and pre-commissioning of all rotating equipment. Physical installation work will be executed by the PCC Main Contractor and their supply chain. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the delivery of large Industrial Projects. The role will include interface management during design, constructability reviews and interfacing with other Client discipline leads to ensure that all Project milestones are achieved. The role will initially be based on Teesside on a flexible working basis but will involve occasional travel to contractor's design offices in Paris and FAT sites. At the appropriate time, the role will transition to be a full-time site-based role in Teesside with a Mon-Fri site working pattern.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the oversight of the installation of all Rotating Equipment (by Contractor and their supply chain) on the Project through to Completion & Ready for Commissioning Start Up.
  • Ensuring that all Mechanical equipment is delivered, installed, tested and commissioned in accordance with the project requirements.
  • Review Contractors Method Statements to ensure delivery and quality of construction work packs.
  • Provide rotating equipment-related technical support to the Contractor O&M group regarding troubleshooting, deviation from normal operation, performance optimisation, monitoring, planning, execution, repair, and overhaul.
  • Provide technical direction and design input for process and installation design of rotating equipment.
  • Provide assistance to Contractor discipline leadership, coordination, support, and direct interaction for programs, systems, processes, and practices for Lubrication, Mechanical Seals and Seal Systems, Condition Monitoring, Vibration Analysis, and Rotor-Dynamic Balancing and other reliability and mechanical integrity elements.
  • Assist in expediting responses to Site raised Technical queries.
  • Provide oversight in support of the Contractor to contractor vendors when on site and ensure Contractor obtains and issues all vendor close out reports.
  • Ensure all Daily / Weekly / Monthly work status reporting is issued in accordance with Contract requirements (by the Contractor).
  • Monitoring Contractors technical compliance and quality standards including raising NCR's if appropriate.
  • Support and Collaborate with the Contractor engineering design team to ensure Contractor properly implements design change.
  • Support Construction schedule from area mechanical construction to system / sub system completion.
  • Ensure that Contractor discipline handover documentation / dossiers are complete as per project requirements.
  • Coordinating with Contractor on construction walkdowns as part of the mechanical completion process.

Qualifications

  • Expected: HNC or higher.
  • Multidiscipline experience of construction execution in major projects.
  • Extensive mechanical construction management and execution experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with large scale combined cycle power plants including GE Vernova H class equipment.
  • An extensive knowledge of Completion systems to ensure a seamless handover to Commissioning.
  • Experience of working closely with Commissioning and Operations team.
  • A good understanding of the key value drivers of projects that relate to construction and the ability to drive competitiveness without a detrimental impact on safety or quality.
  • Ability to work across multiple project elements / have a basic understanding of multi disciplines.
