Wood has an exciting opportunity for an Internal Communications Lead to join our team on a 12-month contract working directly with our client on the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) and Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) projects. This role offers hybrid working from the Sunbury office where 3 days a week in the office will be expected. We are open to either fixed term or contractor engagements for the role.

The Role

The Internal Communications Lead will coordinate all internal communication activities across the NZT/NEP projects. The role ensures consistent, accurate, and engaging messaging across all contractor organisations, strengthens alignment on project charter behaviours, and supports culture-building initiatives. The role will work closely with the project management team to develop internal communication materials including emails, project updates and milestones, internal events including project town halls and reporting mechanisms to maintain high levels of engagement, visibility of progress, and delivery of key project messages.

Responsibilities

  • Communications Strategy & Leadership
    • Build and maintain the projects communications plan in partnership with contractors.
    • Engage with contractor communication leads, ensuring alignment of messaging and activities.
    • Ensure integration of messaging into broader project communications.
    • Develop communications materials and technical author for project related communications.
  • Materials, Campaigns & Engagement
    • Organise and procure project merchandise to support engagement and recognition.
    • Manage the roll-out of project initiatives across all sites and contractor groups.
    • Coordinate quarterly projects awards.
    • Coordinate printing, production, and distribution logistics for all materials across sites.
  • Governance, Budget & Performance Reporting
    • Manage the projects communications budget.
    • Track and report engagement metrics and trends.
  • Project Communications Delivery
    • Produce regular project newsletters, project progress and update videos.
    • Draft and circulate broader project updates for all stakeholders.
    • Encourage and support the creation of Yammer posts, including writing content where needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement, Events & Messaging Alignment
    • Coordinate contractor sponsor events, including certificates, materials, and logistics.
    • Support context calls, leadership engagement sessions, and broader project communication events / townhalls.
    • Ensure consistency and alignment of messaging across multiple contractors and project teams.
    • Coordinate onboarding sessions and ensure new joiners are introduced to the charter principles.

Qualifications Expected:

  • Proven experience in internal communications, stakeholder engagement, or corporate communications in a major project or industrial environment.
  • Experience working in multi-contractor or multi-stakeholder environments, ideally within energy, construction, infrastructure, or similar sectors.
  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills.
  • Experience developing communication plans, engagement materials, and/or campaign content.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, logistics, and production workflows.
  • Experience coordinating events or engagement activities across distributed sites preferred.
