Wood is recruiting for a HSE Advisor to support a key client within our Upstream team within our Operations business. This role will predominately be based at the client site, in St Fergus, Aberdeenshire, with occasional visits to the main Wood office in Aberdeen. Occasional travel to other UK sites may be expected for auditing or cover. Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.
The Role
Reporting into the HSE Lead, the HSE Advisor will be responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety and the Environment with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and Client requirements at the client sites thereby ensuring business risks are prevented and mitigated. The advisor will be expected to have a proactive approach to implementing and ensuring a positive and effective safety culture at the project site. Working closely with the site reps and attending relevant safety briefings with the teams to understand the risks and support in mitigating against them.
This is an ideal opportunity for an individual with experience in site safety culture from either a construction or technical background or currently working in a similar HSE environment, who has a positive and proactive approach to ensuring a safe working environment within busy site activity.
Responsibilities
- Being a visible and active member of Safety Briefings (“Tool box talks”) where able.
- Ensuring the requirements stipulated in HSE interface documents/plans are communicated to all relevant personnel.
- Liaising with and building relationships with Client HSE Reps and site Safety Reps.
- Participating in HSE incident investigations and undertaking the appropriate reporting requirements.
- Assisting in coordinating internal and external audits.
- Communicating the important messages from incidents and accidents as a part of the lessons learned process to all relevant parties.
- Promoting and communicating lessons learned from within their own project; reporting deficiencies within project and recording all reportable issues within HSE systems.
- Ensuring the project emergency response arrangements are in place and are communicated to all personnel; ensuring that project requirements align with Client requirements if these take precedence.
- Participation at project HSE meetings, workshops and forums.
- Supporting with the development of HSE improvement plans in line with Project, Client and SI strategic objectives.
- Supporting with the development of the project HSE interface requirements; ensuring compliance with all existing interface documents and in the development of future plans.
- Maintaining a system for monitoring HSE performance.
- Promoting workforce involvement in all HSE activities, initiatives and programmes.
Qualifications
Expected:
- Relevant technical or HSE qualification or qualified by experience with professional certification NEBOSH Certificate.
- Previous practical experience in a technical role, or association with HSE role preferably at construction phase of a project.
- Previous experience in a project site environment.
- Commitment to HSE and in particular safety and assurance and the need to drive down incidents and accidents across the assigned projects.
- Excellent communication and influential skills at all levels of the business both internally and externally.
- Comfortable in both client and other 3rd party environments; able to build exemplary working relationships with client, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous improvement.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- Effective/competent MS Office Suite User.
